摘要:
The remote and geologically complex Northern Victoria Land region of Antarctica (cover) has been chosen for the site of a major research camp to be established during the 1981–1982 Antarctic summer. The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.Researchers from six countries have expressed interest in carrying out projects in geology, geophysics, glaciology, cartography, and biology. Among the suggested projects are a paleomagnetic program for construction of the polar wander path in the Paleozoic; determination of whether Granite Harbor and Admiralty Intrusives are distinct groups; investigation of Cenozoic volcanics, with visits to 50 or 60 scoria cones; airborne geophysics (aeromagnetics) of the region; and fission track geochronology of granitic rocks. The deadline for proposals is June 1, 198

摘要:
One of the best meetings since World War II—that's how one delegate described the General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), held in Canberra, Australia, last December. Overall, delegates indicate that the gathering was a satisfying one from scientific, organizational, and arrangement standpoints.Persons from 71 countries participated (see Table 1). The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Libyan Arab Republic joined the Union as new members. For the first time, the People's Republic of China played a major part in the assembly. About 50 scientists from that country attended. There was also at least one participant from Taiwan at the session

摘要:
Five hundred forty‐one geophysicists, including 53 students and representing 22 European and 11 other countries reaching from Kenya to Japan, gathered in Vienna for the Sixth Annual Meeting of the European Geophysical Society, September 11–14, 1979. The scientific program was organized around 14 symposia, six ‘open’ or general sessions for contributed papers in various subdisciplines, and one workshop. Three Society lectures were featured as part of the program, and the Voyager films of Jupiter attracted a full house. The vigor of European research in all areas of geophysics was manifested in the broad range of topics pr
