Bars of 1 in (25 mm) square section and frames made up of such bars are impacted at various points and the development of ensuing vibrations is studied by means of strain gauges. Experimental methods and recording equipment normally used for relatively slow impact tests are described.

This paper shows how isochromatics can be eliminated in double exposure photoholoelasticity so that sharp unmodulated and doubled isopachics are obtained for the unambiguous determination of principal stress sums. A quartz rotator is used to rotate by 90° the polarization of the beam emerging from the model. The rotated beam is redirected again through the model in a reverse direction and finally impinges on the hologram plate. Analytical and experimental analysis shows that the reconstruction of a double exposure hologram by this method yields isopachics only

摘要:

A technique has been developed for the manufacture of epoxy resin castings of centrifugal pump impellers for use in photoelastic work. The castings are produced in one piece with the aid of silicone rubber corepieces and aluminium moulds, and the method of producing reliable castings is described in detail.
