摘要:
The effect of continuous discharge of untreated domestic waste on the quality of Al‐Jaysh and Al‐Khair was studied from October 1980 to September 1981. The change of the physical, chemical and biological characteristics from up to down stream, and suitability of the water in these canals for irrigation were investigated. It was found that Al‐Jaysh contained higher turbidity and electrical conductivity than Al—Khair. Both parameters decreased from up to down stream. Fecal coliform and Diatoms amounts in both canals were about the same. Diatoms decreased from up to down stream and had a higher resistance than fecal coliform at Al‐Khair. Al‐Khair contained higher biological oxygen demand than Al‐Jaysh. There was no sign of self purification for both canals. In general, heavy metals decreased from up to down stream. It seems sedimentation, rather than precipitation, of these metals was more important.

摘要:
The effect of complexans(NTA,EDTA) on the toxicity of nickel chloride and sulfate to carp (Cyprinus carpioL.) , and on the accumulation of metals in fish at lethal level concentrations was studied. The toxicity of nickel salts to carp was relatively lower, and nickel chloride was more toxic than nickel sulfate. The concentration of metals in fish exposed to nickel chloride and sulfate was remarkably lower than those in the fish exposed to another some heavy metals, such as Cd, Pb, Zn, Cr and Al which were reported in the previous papers. The inhibition of metal accumulation by the presence of complexans was recognized in each part of the fish, but no significantly decrease of mortality of fish to the toxicity of nickel salts.

摘要:
The class of ether compounds was studied in order to nominate chemicals to the National Cancer Institute as candidates for carcinogen bioassay. After application of several qualifying criteria relating to previous, current, or planned carcinogenlcity tests and to commercial significance, the preliminary candidate list of 323 chemicals was reduced to a list of 176 chemicals. Based upon consideration of both the suspicion of possible carcinogenic activity and evidence indicating potential exposure, the following eight chemicals were nominated: methyleugenol, isoeugenol, 2‐isopropoxyphenyl N‐methylcarbamate, estragole, 2‐hydroxy‐4‐methoxybenzophenone, tetrahydrofuran, methyl vinyl ether, and diphenyl ether.
