Field and laboratory studies were conducted to establish the water pollution potential of the improper landfill disposal of demolition waste. Water samples were analyzed from four different demolition waste sites. The results showed significant increases in hardness, alkalinity, conductivity, COD, iron, and manganese. From these field studies, the most extreme concentrations determined were 40 mg/l of iron, 9.0 mg/l of manganese, EDTA hardness of 1100 mg/l (CaCO3), and a COD of 270 mg/l. The interim results of the laboratory study, simulating unsaturated flow through demolition waste, are in close agreement with the field measurements. These results indicate the potential for subsequent deleterious environmental effects.

摘要:
Samples on acid content of particulates and rainfall are collected and analysed at nine stations in Bangkok Metropolitan area. The average concentrations of particulate acidity vary from 5.38 to 10.15 μg/m3and are comparable with those reported for other cities in the world. It is found that weighted average concentrations of acidity of rain water in terms of pH values at the sampling stations vary from 5.57 to 6.32. Chemical analyses of individual rainfalls also show a close correlation between pH and sulphate content (SO4—) of rain water. A linear regression between pH values and acid contents of particulate yields the following relationship:

摘要:
A simple box model was developed to assess the impact of biogenic emissions on rural air quality. High emission fluxes and most‐favorable meteorological conditions were used to estimate an upper limit to the ozone‐forming potential of biogenic hydrocarbons from a hypothetical forest in central North Carolina. The results suggest that natural hydrocarbons are not a significant source of ozone in rural areas.

Recently, several procedures have been developed at the National Bureau of Standards to measure some environmentally important contaminants in used lubricating oils. In this paper, a sequential high performance liquid Chromatographie method will be described which can be used to determine the concentration of benzo(a)pyrene in some virgin, used, and recycled oils.

摘要:
Three groups of waterhyacinths (small, ca 15 cm tall; medium, 45–60 cm, and “super”, 90–120 cm) were compared by using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis and examining the root tips of healthy plants. Banding patterns for seven isozyme systems were examined and a total of 14 consistent and reproducible zones of electrophoretic activity were observed on the gels. Based upon these data, no discernable differences existed amongst the three forms, despite the disparity of size and their occurrence in different environments.
