摘要:
The histotopography of the silvery-white glistening carotid body and the branchial derivates in the cranial thoracic inlets as well as the histocytology of the particular organ were revealed by various microtechniques. Three types of randomly distributed epithelioid cells, many capillaries, and small and large sinuses are observable. Myelinated fibres are sparsely distributed. 25 clinically healthy white leghorn males were used for this investigation.

摘要:
The ultrastructure of hepatic microbodies of pigs was studied in liver samples fixed in phosphate-buffered 2% glutaraldehyde (pH 7.4) and postfixed in 2% osmium tetroxide. The microbodies were rounded or ovoid in shape and contained a granular matrix enclosed with a single limiting membrane. The matrix, in many of the organelles, contained an amorphous or an organized (crystalloid) area. The crystalloids were organized as fine, alternating electron-opaque and electron-lucent lines, or as groups of tubules arranged in more than one plane. Profiles of smooth endoplasmic reticulum were usually found near the microbodies. 34 micro-bodies were approximately 0.67 ± 0.02 μm (mean ± standard error) in length and were approximately 0.56 μm (± 0.02 μm) wide. The marginal plates consisted of strata which exhibited a periodicity. The average length and width of 17 plates was approximately 0.34 ± 0.03 μm and 0.002 μm, respectively. This study clearly establishes the occurrence of marginal plates in micro-bodies of porci

摘要:
Spinal ganglia of C3, C7, T5, T12, L2 and L5 spinal dorsal roots were studied. These ganglia vary in their size. Their greatest cross-sectional area was at C7 (2.12 cm2) in the cervical region and at Ls (1.39 cm2) in the lumbar region. The neurons were either spherical or oval in contour. The smallest neurons (mean size 68.50 × 55.64 μm) were located in the T5 ganglion, while some of the largest neurons (mean size 79.17 × 63.34 μm) were noticed in the C3 ganglion. As for their cross-sectional area, the ganglionic neurons at the L5 level were the largest (3,713.16 μm2), while the least value (2,994.60 μm2) was noted in T5 ganglionic cells. The amphicytes (satellite cells) were clearly defined. The neuronal cytoplasm revealed finely granular Nissl material. The neurons exhibit a pale-staining, centrally located vesicular nucleus with a prominent nucleolus. Few multipolar cells with eccentric nuclei were noted in the L5 gan

摘要:
The effects of adequate stimuli upon the ganglion cells of the ganglion vestibulare and ganglion geniculi n.facialis were studied in the guinea pig labyrinth. During experimental examination, swelling up to 112% as well as shrinkage up to 35% were noticed. These volume changes do not coincide with the changes occurring in the corresponding sensory nuclei during the same stimulus. As the ganglion cells receive their impulses from various sensularies, they are responsible for several types of movement. A periodical increase and decrease of the nuclear volume are assumed to be an expression of the general total activity. The cells of the ganglion geniculi respond very strongly to these movement stimuli, which are not regarded to be adequate. Consequently it was proved that strong inadequate excitations can also influence the neighboring ganglion cells. In the cytoplasm, strong excitations lead to variations in the Niss) content. An intensive material exchange between the cytoplasm and the karyoplasm is assumed to be a cause for the changes of the nuclei volumes. But only the relation between the cell nuclei and the cell somata is altered. The volume of the whole cell remains approximately constant.

摘要:
The concept of temporal and spatial relationship between neuronal and vascular changes in the central nervous system following different kinds of anoxia still remains debatable, in that it is uncertain if anoxia-ischaemia primarily produces vascular changes in the brain or it initially damages the cerebral neurons. The present investigation has been undertaken to denote the sequential relationship between neuronal and vascular changes following experimental cerebral ischaemic anoxia. Adult healthy albino rats were subjected to ischaemic anoxia by bilateral clamping of their common carotid arteries for varying intervals of 5, 10 and 15 min. The animals of each group were subsequently sacrificed on days 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 after the clamping procedure, for light-microscopic study of their brains. Our findings are characterized by initial vascular changes, which appear to have resulted in ‘no-reflow’ leading subsequently to neuronal damage. The latter, in turn, secondarily caused damage to the microvasculat

摘要:
Ticonium metal implant placed surgically in the previously edentulatized adult dog mandible induced the •formation of an extensive Sharpey fiber system. Sharpey’s fibers extended from the peri-implant area, deep into alveolar bone. The frequency of Sharpey’s fibers and the degree of their mineralization varied from scattered location and unmineralized state to heavy clustering and full mineralization. This study suggests that the formation of Sharpey’s fibers and the degree of their mineralization are determined by biophysical forces of pressure received at a giv

摘要:
The present work describes histological and histochemical observations made on the neoplastic liver of Indian silver bills, Uroloncha malabarica. The histology of neoplastic tissue as well as liver has been discussed. Further, a few enzymes like alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, 5-nucleotides and non-specific esterase have been localized in the diseased liver. The occurrence of lymphocytoma caused a marked change in the localization of the enzymes. Sometimes total inhibition of the enzyme was encountered. Damaged sinusoid cells and bile canaliculi of the neoplasm as well as liver lobules show no reaction for alkaline phosphatase. However, its counterpart, acid phosphatase, exhibits intense activity in both neoplastic tissue and liver cells. Aggregates of neoplastic tissue give moderate 5-nucleotidase reaction while it gives poor activity in hepatic tissue of the diseased liver. Parenchymatous cells are able to give some activity for the non-specific esterase while it is very dull in the neoplastic tissue.

摘要:
This study shows that autolytic changes in liver tissue from mini-pig fetuses are less extensive if, after removal of the uterus, the fetal circulation is left anatomically intact until excision and fixation. It must be concluded that, if it is not possible to remove and fix fetal material immediately, the fetus should be kept in the intact amniotic cavity with an intact umbilical cord.

摘要:
A comparative study of the enzymes Δ5-3β-HSD, cytochrome oxidase and peroxidase has been made in the ovaries and uterus of mammals (mouse, guinea pig, cat and dog) during various reproductive phases. The granulosa cells of developing follicles, hypertrophied interstitial cells of thecal origin and the luteal cells show intense Δ5-3β-HSD and cytochrome oxidase activity. Peroxidases are found to be present in the corpus luteum and the epithelial cords of thecal origin. Δ5-3β-HSDand cytochrome oxidase activity is localized to the endometrium and myometrium of mature and pregnant uterus of mouse and guinea pig, while peroxidase is seen only in the decidua and endometrial glands of pregnant animals. The significance of these enzymes is discussed in relation to the cellular basis of luteinization and steroid hormone synt

摘要:
Light- and electron-microscopic methods for nerve fiber counting and diameter measuring are described. These methods were applied to the rat optic nerve. Differences between light- and electron-microscopic results are shown. Coincidences and divergences with the current literature data are discussed.
