摘要:
AbstractAn economic model is proposed that will take into account the effect of commercial activity on the environment. A series of options are given for sustaining human life without sacrificing environmental services. These are discussed in relation to the various aspects offishing. A key task for education is to acquaint decision-makers with the idea that there is more to consider than economic efficiency.

摘要:
AbstractAmong decision-makers in the agricultural sector, who have responsibility for management of technology and natural resources, many are beginning to recognize that modern agriculture is on an unsustainable course, which could lead eventually to global catastrophe. An alternative is regenerative agriculture which is based on the principle of working with nature instead of dominating it.

摘要:
AbstractIndustrial development has had a profound effect on both human society and Nature. This impact has been both positive and negative. It is important to harmonize the opposites in industry and commerce so that humankind may reap the benefits without consequent ecological destruction.

摘要:
AbstractWith the increased use of non-renewable resources for the production of energy and their consequent decline and probable exhaustion, decision-makers have to look at other means of providing power. A sustainable energy future requires us to work within the limits imposed by environmental and natural resource constraints. The efficient use of renewable resources is of paramount importance, as is the replenishment of the stock of fuelwood in developing countries. Of equal significance is to harness the effects of solar radiation especially in areas of abundant sunlight. Full awareness of the problems is fundamental to their solution.

摘要:
AbstractThrough emphasis on knowledge and achievement, modern education has caused sensory deprivation and emotional starvation. This, in turn, has led to a lack of understanding of nature and of our close connections with it. We now need to awaken our senses, imagination and intuition, which is necessary for progress, and to become an organic unity with nature, which is necessary for survival. The efforts of educators, teachers, community and political leaders are needed to open up traditional educational structures to provide access to this kind of learning to all.

摘要:
AbstractThe first symposium of the North American and Caribbean Branch of the International Science Policy Foundation (ISPF) was held in September 1988 at Kingston, Ontario. Free trade negotiations had just been pursued by Canada and the United States and federal trade legislation had recently been passed in the US. The 80 delegates concluded that science policy issues had a low profile in free or ‘freer’ trade and that, in the Canada-US case, it would be some time before science and technology policies would be significantly affected. Nevertheless, the delegates did suggest that a research agenda could be put together.

摘要:
AbstractThe first comprehensive set of S&T policies for Tibet will be proposing that science be mobilised to support three priority industries: minerals, tourism and agriculture. It includes an end to isolation and the beginning of a new period of international collaboration. Other issues to be considered are the diffusion of technology, energy planning and improving working conditions for scientists.
