摘要:
AbstractThis article draws attention to a number of cases where it seems that scientists and technologists have been penalized in various ways for having views opposed to those of the nuclear industry. Publications may be suppressed, through to careers being destroyed. The examples come from many countries. It is not possible for one author to investigate thoroughly every claim, but the quality and quantity of casks cited here suggest grounds for concern.

摘要:
AbstractOccupational environment is fast deteriorating in India. The problem is becoming severe since workplace exposure in small scale and household industries is not regulated at all. This, coupled with the combined effect of poverty, unemployment, underemployment, child labour and illiteracy, makes it very difficult to implement risk reduction measures in workplaces. On pure economic grounds, improving occupational environment will not be attractive for industries. There needs to be strong pressure from international agencies, environmentalists, trade union leaders and academics for creating awareness among workers and making the workplace safer in developing countries.

摘要:
AbstractThere have been claims that artificial intelligence (AI) has created a new living species. Surely this is not so since DNA is the basis of all life as we know it, and that life is essentially biological in function. However, the achievements of ‘expert’ systems and robotics are considerable and computers will not forget any facts or inference rules built into them.Currently, human experts use common sense, intuition, and their own values in assessing the computer's advice. Hopefully major decisions will never rely entirely on expert systems and they will remain tools not become masters.

摘要:
AbstractJapanese schoolchildren are under severe pressure to perform well, and the males are expected to go to university. This can mean parents paying highly for a private university to compensate for their son's lack of performance at school. After a bachelor degree in science or engineering there are many more jobs available than graduates to fill them. After a post graduate course this situation is reversed.Universities and private industry are both being encouraged to increase their basic research and to allow people to use their creativity.
