摘要:
The paper investigates an adaptive feedback control system for incubator oxygen treatments which can determine the optimum oxygen concentration of the mixed gas (FiO2) that should be forced into the incubator so as to maintain the arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2) within normal limits for a newborn infant with respiratory problems. One of the features of the present system is that the state of respiratory distress can be estimated from the data sequence of the inputFiO2and outputtcPO2(transcutaneous oxygen pressure), and, correspondingly, the control inputFiO2can be adjusted in an adaptive manner. Validity of the control scheme is examined in simulations using the mathematical model of neonatal respiratory system and in animal experiments where we simulate hypoxia dogs by keeping them in various low-ventilation conditions.

摘要:
One role of the anaesthetist in the operating theatre is to maintain adequate levels of muscle relaxation using drug administration. The paper describes extensions to successful online control of muscle relaxation involving the use of Smith predictor and self-tuning algorithms. Extensive simulations including nonlinear pharmacological effects were performed to validate software for clinical trials. Successful clinical experiments were performed using Smith predictor and explicit self-tuning programmes. Careful jacketing of the self tuner was required, and, together with persistent excitation, gave online tracking of drug concentration changes.

摘要:
The design of relay control systems is presented having ideal, dead zone and rectangular hysteresis transfer characteristics. The choice of the appropriate describing function model is considered and examples are given of limit cycle prediction and digital compensation in thew-domain. The method described is particularly useful for the analysis of slowly sampled systems.

摘要:
In the paper we propose a numerical procedure to determine the load-frequency control of a power system composed of several interconnected areas. In order to decrease the associated implementation cost, the control law is constrained to have two different special structures: decentralised feedback and/or output feedback control. The procedure is based on a new property of the classical Riccati equation which is analysed in two different aspects: closed-loop asymptotic stability and suboptimality degree. An example of two interconnected areas is solved and comparisons are made in order to evaluate the performance of the closed-loop system.

摘要:
The paper considers the problem of optimal regulator design of linear multivariable systems with prescribed pole locations in the presence of constant system disturbances. For solution of the problem, an augmented disturbance-free system is introduced to which the known methods can be applied. The problem, however, is solved in two stages, and thus the procedure suggested avoids the computational burden due to augmentation. It has been found that, for positioning of the poles, a submatrix of the state weighting matrix in the quadratic performance index has to be of full rank. Treatment of the case when the system has a more general class of disturbances has also been discussed.

摘要:
A recently proposed Routh-Hurwitz stability test for delay systems, with a pseudodelay parameterT, requires amendment to allowTto cover the range 0 to ∞, followed by the range – ∞ to 0. Two examples are presented to illustrate this and other aspects of the method.

摘要:
A well known numerical technique for calculating the optimal control of distributed parameter systems is the spatial discretisation (SD) procedure. In the paper an improved formulation of the SD scheme is studied in the case of the boundary control of the diffusion equation. Significantly more accurate results are obtained with no additional computational complexity.
