摘要:
The parameter identification of a class of time-varying stochastic systems is considered in this paper. Online schemes which track the time-varying parameters in real time are proposed. Conditions which guarantee either almost sure convergence of the estimation error to the null or bounded mean-square error are obtained. The analysis is based on stochastic Lyapunov functions. This allows the convergence conditions to be weakened, and makes investigation of the stability problem of the proposed identification schemes possible.

摘要:
A fast state-space self-tuner is developed for suboptimal control of linear stochastic multivariable systems. The suboptimal self-tuner is determined by utilising both the standard recursive-extended-least-squares parameter estimation algorithm and the recently developed matrix sign algorithm, which gives a fast solution of the steady-state discrete Riccati equation. The developed suboptimal state-space self-tuner can be applied to a class of stable/unstable and minimum/non-minimum phase linear stochastic multivariable systems, in which the pair (A, C) is block observable and the pair (A, B) is stablisable. Also, the pair (A, Q̂) withQ̂Q̂T=Qis detectable whereA, BandCare system, input and output matrices, respectively, andQis a weighting matrix in a quadratic performance index.

摘要:
The first part of this paper considers the computer-aided design of multivariable structurally constrained regulators for linear time-invariant plants. Two relevant control problems which can be effectively solved by a parameter optimisation approach, are introduced; the basic role played by the internal model principle is then specifically pointed out, and the reformulation of the resulting optimisation problems as mathematical programs are given. The most relevant aspects of the computational algorithms developed to solve these problems are finally outlined, along with the main features of the program package developed to solve, among others, the two cases presented in Part 2

摘要:
Part 2 of the paper presents two examples of the applications of the design procedured for structurally constrained industrail regularors, which was the object of Part 1. The first example refers to the damping of the elecromechanical oscillations in an electric power system, and the second one considered the co-ordinated control of a drum-boiler power plant.

摘要:
The single-step optimal control of a voltage-driven variable-reluctance stepping motor, with an inertia load, is considered. A solution for the optimal control policy is achieved by a conjugate gradient method in function space, optimising the response of a well established nonlinear motor model. The open-loop bang-bang policy which results is refined using a switching-times algorithm which is more economical in computer requirements. The technique is implemented as a microprocessor controller and is shown, by experimental results on a typical motor, to be effective over a wide range of load inertia.

摘要:
The spatial stability of a sequence of accelerating repetitive operations is investigated using the output spectral-density in a frequency band enclosing the first resonance peak as a stability indicator. The operations of the sequence are identical in dynamic structure, but subject to a constant rate of acceleration between operations, thus resembling the rolling of metal strip and other repetitive manufacturing processes such as machining. The technique readily yields a value for the critical number of operations within which stability can be expected to be achieved, within the chosen frequency band. Simulation of a variety of systems confirms the physical usefulness of this number which correlates well with the observed number of operations found to be necessary to achieve an output profile that is adequately stable from a practical viewpoint.

摘要:
The phenomenon of ‘integral wind-up’ in a process controller, when a plant's actuation reaches its limits, is well known, and can cause severe problems. This is particularly so for batch reactors, in which the start-up phase, when such saturation occurs, is a significant proportion of the total process time. This short paper presents a new technique which has been used successfully in several processes. A practical example, relating to an industrial batch reaction process, is described in detail. The new method has proved to be very effective in this demanding application.
