摘要:
A large class of discrete multipass processes can be viewed as two-dimensional systems of the form proposed by Roesser. It is shown that the criterion for stability along the pass is equivalent to Shanks condition for two-dimensional b.i.b.o. stability. The interplay of ideas between the two disciplines should make possible the emergence of a coherent feedback control and systems theory for multipass processes.

摘要:
The closed-loop optimal control of a singularly perturbed system with fixed-end-point conditions results in a special matrix Riccati equation. A singular-perturbation method is presented to analyse the Riccati equation. An algorithm is developed for obtaining the zeroth-, first- and second-order approximate solutions. An illustrative example is given. An integral-squared-error criterion is used to examine the closeness of the approximate solutions.

摘要:
The Karhunen-Loève expansion for random processes, the method of principal component analysis, the singular-value decomposition of rectangular matrices and the method of separation of variables used in mathematical physics and functional analysis are shown to possess the same basic structure based on orthonormal basis functions or vectors and associated eigenproblems.

摘要:
In this two-part paper we study the stability, stabilisation and performance of hierarchical structures subject to structural perturbations. In this first part, perturbation of the links between the co-ordinator and the subsystems are considered. A sufficient condition is derived for the stability of the resulting controller, and bounds are put on the performance degradation. This condition is tested on the example of a system comprising 11 coupled synchronous machines, where it is seen that verification of the condition when the co-ordination inputs are cut does indeed ensure the stability of the resulting unco-ordinated system.

摘要:
In this second part of the paper we study the stability and performance of two-level controllers subject to structural perturbations. The perturbations that are now considered could arise either from the failure of links between the two levels, asin Part I, or from failure of some of the physical interconnections between the subsystems. In addition, the stabilisation of the system is studied and bounds are also developed for the performance degradation. The latter compare the performance of the perturbed system to the globally optimal one.

摘要:
Since publication of a previous review on the subject, the scope and depth of polynomic systems theory has grown considerably. It is the purpose of this paper to explore the subject with as little mathematics as possible in order to clarify the many misconceptions, uses and limitations of the theory. The differences that exist between polynomic systems theory and linear theory, the discrete-time case and the continuous-time case, and the role of polynomic systems as approximations are carefully examined.

摘要:
Hybrid self-tuning controllers are introduced which combine two sample rates to give both discrete time and continuous-time features. The limiting properties of such algorithms, as the sample rate increases, are shown to correspond to a continuous-time control law. Undesirable intersample behaviour associated with the discrete-time control of continuous systems with high pole-zero excess is thus avoided. The results are illustrated by the control of a triple integrator.
