摘要:
A method of treatment consisting in administration of a neurodynamic drug, pyrithioxin, combined with a short period of hyperventilation (HV) was applied in cerebral infarct patients with hemiplegia. The combination was superior to pyrithioxin alone for the motor recovery of these patients. In some cases, it induced immediately a partial restoration of motility. The combination constantly brought about an increase in urinary excretion of norepinephrine and vanilmandelic acid, which failed to occur after pyrithioxin or HV alone. HV appears to facilitate the neural effects of the drug by promoting its transfer into the CNS.

摘要:
Investigations on pathophysiological processes in the CSF space due to impairment of the blood-CSF barrier and due to an immune reaction are reported. Barrier disturbances and immune reaction are demonstrated by means of absolute values of CSF protein electrophoresis and by measurement of immunoglobulins. With inflammatory diseases of the CNS, an altered blood-CSF barrier will often be seen at the moment of the first lumbar puncture. Multiple sclerosis, subacute leucoencephalitis and neurosyphilis show signs of a distinct immune reaction together with an increase of the γ-globulins as well as the immunoglobulin G in the absence or slight presence of a barrier impairment. Non-inflammatory diseases of the CNS have variable barrier disturbances

摘要:
51 patients with cerebrovascular diseases were examined by CSF spectrophotometry (CSF-SPE) and computerized transverse axial tomography (CTAT: EMI scanning), most cases being followed by several examinations. Specific diagnoses were detected in 98 (CSF-SPE) and 75% (CTAT) of the cases, generally by only one examination. In cases examined angiographically or by isotope encephalography, the corresponding figures were 50 and 0%. The combination of CSF-SPE and CTAT examination obviously means a breakthrough in diagnosis of cerebrovascular diseases which is naturally a prerequisite for the more rational therapy of these common and frequently disabling disorders.

摘要:
In the review of 117 patients hospitalized for herpes zoster (HZ) during the 10-year-period of 1960–1969, six patients with motor paralysis of the limbs were found. The incidence of motor paralysis in HZ which ranges in the literature between 0.5 and 31°/o, was 18% in our series. Reasons for these differences are discussed. An uncommon feature, local recurrence of HZ with motor deficit pertaining to the same segments is reported, and joint subluxation, a rare complication of motor HZ, is also described. The importance of looking for diaphragmatic paralysis and motor deficit in the thoracoabdominal segments, not readily revealed in routine examination, is stress

摘要:
Twelve parkinsonian patients with an unsatisfactory therapeutic result on L-Dopa alone due to nausea, vomiting and involuntary movements were treated with L-Dopa and decarboxylase inhibitor. The daily dose reached 800 mg L-Dopa and 200 mg decarboxylase inhibitor. Single doses of each of the components were also given. Electrophysiological examination of hypokinesia, tremor and rigidity, and clinical observation revealed clear evidence of rapid improvement on small doses of L-Dopa combined with decarboxylase inhibitor. Most of the improvement occurred during the 1st week before the maximal dose was reached. A single oral dose of decarboxylase inhibitor resulted in an improvement, suggesting the presence in the organism of a small amount of L-Dopa. This work also shows the absence of liver toxicity of the drug used. Elimination of the extracerebral side effects nausea and vomiting in our opinion is a principle advantage of the compound compared to L-Dopa alone, whereas abnormal involuntary movements, which were found in all patients, remain the limiting adverse side effect.
