摘要:
Abstract. All of the features of crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) and most characteristics of C4photosynthesis are exhibited by stomatal guard cells. It is proposed that CAM and possibly also C4photosynthesis result from the expression in photosynthetic cells of genetic information which is expressed only in guard cells of C3plants.

摘要:
Abstract.Histones have been extracted from tuber and cultured tuber explant material and separated by gel electrophoresis. Histone H1 is heterogenous with 3–4 components in addition to the widely recognized histone H1a and H1b. Using labelling procedures and alkaline phosphatase treatment, histone H1 has been shown to be phosphorylated on both serine and threonine residues and possibly other acid‐labile linkages. Variations in histone H1 phosphorylation have been measured through the cell cycle and the evidence indicates enhanced phosphorylation occurring during the G2/M phase as in animal syst

摘要:
Abstract. The chloroplasts of two species of the Crassulaceae and their F1hybrid were compared by electron microscopy. The two species had contrasting leaf tissue δ13C values of −25°/∞(Sedum greggii) and −13°/∞(Cremnophila linguifolia), and the F1hybrid had a value of − 18°/∞. S.greggiihad a mean of 8.9 thylakoids per granum in contrast to C.linguifoliawhich had a mean of only 3.8 thylakoids per granum. The F1hybrid had a mean of 6.4 thylakoids per granum. Crystaloids were observed in S.greggiiand the hybrid but not

摘要:
Abstract. It is well established that seedlings of mustard (Sinapis albaL.) synthesize juvenile anthocyanin only if treated with light pulses or continuous light. The light effects are considered to be due to the operation of phytochrome. Here we show that the responsiveness of anthocyanin synthesis to a saturating red light pulse or to continuous far‐red light varies as a function of time and is strongly influenced by a light pretreatment prior to competence. Competence appears approximately 25 h after sowing. The starting point of anthocyanin synthesis, which is 27 h after sowing, and the lag‐ phase of this response, which is 2 h, are not affected by light pretreatments prior to competence. It is concluded that quantitative interpretations of phytochrome responses based entirely on properties of phytochrome can no longer be considered adequ
