摘要:
One of the constraints on the development of a sustainable approach to energy generation is the attitude of local people to the deployment of renewable energy technologies in their locality. Wind power is now a major producer of electricity in Denmark and North Germany and its contribution continues to grow rapidly, in sharp contrast to the case of the UK where progress has been practically brought to a standstill because of planning opposition. The key lesson from this study, which compares and contrasts the situation in Denmark, Germany and the UK, is that a high level of local, and preferably, community ownership of wind power is essential if there is to be solid public acceptance of the technology.

Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is applied to predicting the pressure loss coefficient of tube bundles for closed-wet cooling towers. The prediction involves the single-phase air flow and two-phase flow of gas and water droplets. The accuracy of CFD modelling of the pressure loss coefficient is assessed for single-phase air flow over closely-spaced tube bundles for a range of flow velocities applied in closed-wet cooling towers. The pressure loss coefficient for both single- and two-phase flow over tube bundles with large transverse pitches is then determined by CFD modelling. It is shown that the pressure loss coefficient decreases with transverse pitch but increases with water-to-air mass flow ratio.

摘要:
In this study changes in the surface pressure field over Europe are analysed to see if they are reflected in the statistical structure of the wind field over the Great Hungarian Plain. The data bais consists of hourly wind speed data of three meteorological stations (Debrecen, Békéscsaba and Szeged) at the Great Hungarian Plain, coming from the periods between 1968–72 and 1991–95, respectively. A new statistical test is also shown in the paper, in order to apply it for determining significance of statistical differences between expected values of non-independent time series. Decrease of wind energy might be expected at the Great Hungarian Plain, however no definite results were obtained on the data base considered.

摘要:
The paper describes a novel evaporator cooler using a flexible fibre “mop” fan. The mop fan is similar to a conventional centrifugal fan but it utilises a brush disk instead of the blade disk of the latter. Experimental work was carried out to determine the effectiveness of the mop fan to humidify and cool air. This was achieved by spraying the rotating mop fan with water. The results showed that the cooling across the mop impeller was an adiabatic process. The efficiency of the mop fan in saturating a passing air stream was similar to that of commercial air washers and approached 98%.
