摘要:
To design a passive building a careful assessment of the direct solar gain is required, so that the amount of solar energy collected by transparent surfaces can be determined. With this aim a computer package has been developed by means of which an hourly computation of the solar beam radiation coming into the building through oriented windows can be performed. The program also obtains the solar energy absorbed on the interior walls, floor and ceiling. The procedure followed is based on solar geometric relations and takes into account the transmission coefficient of the glass and the absorbtance of the walls.

摘要:
To reduce weather data computer storage without loss of accuracy Discrete Fourier Series are often employed for representation of hourly Solar Radiation inputs. This paper applies a method [1] which is based on the circular convolution theorem for determining the Fourier coefficients (Gn) of the solar radiation transmittance G(t) through glazings from the coefficients τn, and lnof the discrete Fourier Series representations of the tranmittance function τ(t) and of the coefficient l(t), respectively.

A finite-time endoreversible heat-driven absorption refrigerator is modelled thermodynamically in this paper. The refrigerator uses low-temperature geothermal heat transfer directly to provide a cooling effect. The maximum cooling capacity delivered by the absorption system is analyzed.

Until recently, Renewable Energy Technologies were seen as of marginal importance. However, with the use of fossil fuels likely to be increasingly constrained in the future, and nuclear power facing continuing uncertainties, the renewables have begun to look more attractive. In which case we are likely to see a whole new set of technical, strategic and political issues enter the energy policy debate. This paper explores some of the new issues that are likely to emerge as renewable energy challenges existing technologies and energy policy paradigms.

A 240 MW tidal power station was constructed on the river Rance between St Malo and Dinard during 1959–1967. However, although France, in common with many other countries, had published widely in the broad field of tidal power, little publicised information on aspects specific to the Rance scheme prior to its construction can be identified from a detailed library search of the period. Certainly no reports of environmental assessments pertinent to the subject can be found.

摘要:
This paper describes various, partially improvised, experiments that were devised in order to assess the thermal performance of a solar retrofit that was added to a school building. Typical measurements results are shown and analyzed. Two definitions are given for the system efficiency of solar retrofits to large-mass structures: one for the case when there is no backup system to complicate the analysis, and one for suggested use when auxiliary heating is present.
