摘要:
A method is presented, which can be used at the pre-design analysis stage for assessing the climate, establishing the thermal control task and selecting the appropriate passive control techniques. The psychrometric chart is used as the basis and the termcontrol-potential zoneis introduced to describe the range of outdoor atmospheric conditions within which indoor comfort could be achieved by the various passive control techniques.

摘要:
The adsorbent properties of zeolites 5A, 13X and activated charcoal have been measured for the organic refrigerants R11, R12, R22 and R114. The aim of the work was to assess their use as possible pairs in an adsorption cycle that could be used for solar cooling. Charcoal-R22 offered the best COP of about 0.2.

摘要:
A full-scale experimental programme to study the ad freeze/heaving problem of an insulated basement is currently underway at the National Research Council of Canada. Apart from heaving results this experiment has also yielded interesting findings related to the natural convection in concrete-block wall cavities. Both the field data and a simplified finite element model calculation show that natural convection in a block basement wall can be a significant factor contributing to heat losses. Insulating only the inside upper portion of the wall, as is current practice, may not be effective in reducing heat losses with block walls, while full length insulation may lead to significant lowering of ground temperatures near footing levels.

摘要:
The Highlands Close group active solar heating scheme supplies solar space and water heating to seven local authority flats and solar water heating to a further seven houses mainly during the summer months. The system comprises 136 m2of flat plate collectors integrated into the roofs of the houses, a 7 m3water solar store and a distribution network to the dwellings which have individual gas boilers for auxiliary heating. The control strategy adopted models that of a much larger solar district heating scheme where control units in the dwellings sense solar distribution circuit temperature rather than solar store temperatureper se.The scheme has operated for over a year and an assessment of its performance is presented. Issues related to control strategies and system configuration for group solar schemes generally are also discussed.

A behavioural model has been developed for correlating the area of the solar array, the capacity of the storage batteries, and the system cost of a roof-top or centralized solar-energy system relative to the average daily electricity demand. The mathematical analysis incorporates pertinent social, economic, climatic and energy-resource factors.
