摘要:
Most exploitation of geothermal energy to date has occurred in the volcanically-active regions of the world, where it has been used primarily for the production of electric power. Until recently, little attention has been paid to environmental consequences in these often remote locations and the results—though spectacular—may be unattractive. This paper is concerned more with the consequences of trying to exploit the lower grade geothermal resources found in Northern Europe and the UK and suggests that with a little care the environmental consequences of development in these areas should be negligible.

Poor stratification in Domestic Hot Water (DHW) storage tanks strongly reduces the performance of solar collectors. As stratification disturbances are frequent particularly in medium-large size plants, it is more realistic to considerfully mixedtanks.

摘要:
The paper compares a number of expressions in general use to determine two important quantities, the solar declination and the equation of time. The expressions are used to calculate numerical values for specimen days throughout the year which are compared with almanac values. A least squares method is used to find the expressions giving the smallest cumulative error and these are proposed for use in future work.

Consultants Sir William Halcrow & Partners in association with Intermediate Technology Power Ltd have recently completed the latest stage of a United Nations Development Programme/World Bank project to demonstrate and evaluate small-scale solar-powered pumping systems suitable for use in developing countries. This paper presents some of the results of the project.
