摘要:
The low-energy-house laboratories at the Building Research Station incorporate various techniques for reducing energy consumption for space and water heating. They have been built to high standards of insulation, but the main experimental features concern the eight heat pumps. most of which have been purpose designed for their particular applications. In this paper the houses and their heating systems are described briefly and. whilst these are only experiments, it is expected that some may indicate cost-effective ways in which heat pumps may be employed in both new and existing construction in the future.

Before the era of relatively cheap central-station electricity. wind turbines were in common use on US farms. particularly for pumping water. The dramatic increase in conventional energy prices, together with reduced supply reliability, has generated a new interest in on-farm wind systems in the United States. The US Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Energy (DOE) have been funding research directed toward wind energy applications in farm uses, including irrigation, food processing. space heating, apple cooling and storage. and crop drying. This analysis is based on USDAIDOE-sponsored research conducted in 1979–80, and also incorporates the results of some later research. On-farm grain dryers and their energy requirements are described, and the energy output and cost of selected small wind systems are estimated. Life cycle cost analyses are performed to determine economic feasibility.

摘要:
The development of tidal power is considered with respect to the benefits associated with a small plant designed to serve the local electrical demands of the nearby communities. This is in sharp contrast to previously proposed tidal projects that were planned for large scale installations. The disadvantages of tidal power production are discussed in terms of a pairedbasin system which could continuously supply electricity to a substantial amount of the local market. The Half-Moon Cove project is then reviewed as a method of natural resource development which incorporates regional concerns and which develops the concept of energy self-sufficiency.

摘要:
The research and development work on the shrouded wind-turbine concept, carried out in Israel, is described in some detail. First, the shroud concept is considered and the theoretical and experimental results indicating its power-augmentation capabilities are shown. Thereafter, technical improvements aimed at reducing the shroud cost while keeping its good aerodynamic performance are discussed. Based on the described work with shrouds, a pilot plant was built and tested. The preliminary results obtained from this unit support early expectations regarding the usefulness of the shroud for power augmentation.

This paper describes a solar hot-water heating system installed on the roof of a men's dormitory at the Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Each component is described in detail including collectors. pumps, freeze-protection system and power-failure system. Total actual costs are given. The F-chart method is used to predict savings on water heating on a monthly and on an annual basis.

摘要:
The performance of the heating system of the house described in this paper was monitored from December 1978 until June 1980 by the Solar Group of The Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, which is working on Task I of the International Energy Agency. The performance of the house, in the local climate, was assessed from the data measurements which were then used in a second step to validate the behaviour simulation of a direct-gain solar system. The aim of this project is to develop a new kind of architecture for low-energy housing for Switzerland.
