摘要:
A sequential decomposition method is developed for solving the stationary discrete-time algebraic matrix Riccati equation. This decomposition is applied to the partially singular stationary filtering problem where some of the system outputs are free of measurement noise. Explicit expressions are obtained for the minimum error covariance matrices in the case where the number of the noise-free measurements is equal to the number of independent inputs. The method is generalized also to the case where the singular subsystem is non-square.

摘要:
A design method for regulators having poles in a specified region by using conformal mapping is proposed and the following two problems of regulator design are considered. The first is how to design all poles of a closed-loop system in a specified region by state feedback, and the other is how to design optimal regulators of which the poles may be located in a specified region, i.e. how to obtain the weighting matrices of a quadratic criterion function which yields all its poles in a specified disc with radius r and centre a within the left-half complex plane for continuous systems and in the unit circle for discrete systems.

摘要:
A new sub-optimum estimation scheme is presented for multidimensional dynamic systems, the models of which can be any functions of states and arbitrary independent noises. This scheme depends upon the quantization of components of the state vector, blocks of state component sequences, hypothesis testing, and the Viterbi decoding algorithm. The state vector is sequentially estimated, component by component, in parallel and in blocks. The implementation of the scheme is achieved with a considerable memory reduction and is independent of time. Simulations, some of which are presented, have shown that the performance of the sub-optimum scheme is better than the performance of the extended Kalman filter for some non-linear models, whereas the performance of the scheme is almost as good as the performance of the Kalman filter for linear models with white gaussian disturbance and observation noises.

摘要:
A sufficient condition for the stability of interval matrices is presented which is based on the condition given by Yedavalli (1985 b). Examples are given which illustrate the improvement of the proposed condition over that given by Yedavalli (1986).

摘要:
Based on the discrete orthogonal polynomials, a new computer-oriented algebraic method is proposed for designing a digital PID controller. The PID controller can approximately achieve an arbitrarily specified closed-loop response, and is determined by solving a linear equation using the least squares method. An example is given to demonstrate the availability of the proposed technique.

摘要:
We consider a class of functional differential equations with both discrete and distributed delays. Distributed delays are represented by integrals whose bounds are commensurate with the discrete delays and by weight functions which are impulse responses of finite-dimensional time invariant linear systems. The properties of such systems can be studied by using simple algebraic techniques (polynomials in one variable). Under the natural assumption of spectral controllability, we give an explicit algebraic algorithm to compute a control function which steers any given initial datum to the equilibrium position in finite time. This algorithm also constitutes a direct constructive and simple proof that spectral controllability implies null controllability for the class of systems considered. The algorithm requires, after the computation of the roots of a polynomial in one variable, a finite number of steps.

摘要:
Halevi and Palmor (1986) presented closed-form expressions for optimal observers for singular measurement systems. Two assumptions were made there: (i) the measurement is totally singular; and (ii) the number of outputs is less than or equal to the number of stochastic inputs. These two assumptions are relaxed in this paper, and the optimal observer for the most general singular measurement case is given.

摘要:
This paper extends the results of Lee and Lee (1986) to an output feedback compensator that yields a closed-loop system with asymptotical stability and specified robustness characteristics. This robustness can be interpreted as gain and phase margins when a cone-bounded non-linearity is introduced in the loop of an equivalent system represented in state space form.

摘要:
This paper deals with the design of dead-beat control with optimal robustness for multivariable systems. First, a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of stabilizing dead-beat controllers is derived based on the YJB parametrization of all stabilizing controllers. Then, a robustness index is proposed that is optimized under the constraint of internal stability. The bound of robustness improvement is also shown by calculating the limit value of the robustness index. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results.

摘要:
Our main result is a new sequential method for the design of decentralized control systems. Controller synthesis is conducted on a loop-by-loop basis, and at each step the designer obtains an explicit characterization of the classCofallcompensators for the loop being closed that results in closed-loop system poles being in a specified closed regionDof the s-plane, instead of merely stabilizing the closed-loop system. Since one of the primary goals of control system design is to satisfy basic performance requirements that are often directly related to closed-loop pole location (bandwidth, percentage overshoot, rise time, settling time), this approach immediately allows the designer to focus on other concerns such as robustness and sensitivity. By considering only compensators from classCand seeking the optimum member of that set with respect to sensitivity or robustness, the designer has a clearly-defined limited optimization problem to solve without concern for loss of performance. A solution to the decentralized tracking problem is also provided. This design approach has the attractive features of expandability, the use of only ‘local models’ for controller synthesis, and fault tolerance with respect to certain types of failure.
