摘要:
A vector coat function is proposed which makes adaptive control without complete plant identification more feasible, as the problem of adaptation simplifies to the solution of a set of partial difference equations. The characteristics of the system are defined in terms of matrix arrays, all of which need not be known apriori, but are determined in a learning and adapting loop. Some examples are discussed showing the practical implementation of the proposed algorithm.

摘要:
A general class of two-person differential games, where the first player tries to minimize a cost criterion, while the second tries to maximize a different cost functional, by controlling inputs to a single dynamic system, is investigated as an extension of optimal control theory. Using variational techniques, sufficient conditions for open-loop Nash equilibrium strategies are developed.

摘要:
The purpose of this paper is to extend to the discrete-time case techniques for order reduction and equivalence transformation to canonical forms of time-varying systems. The extension is based on particular controllability and observability matrices which are completely analogous, with respect to their transformational properties, to their continuous-time counterparts.

摘要:
This paper presents a now approach to the optimum design of cold-rolling mills. The model takes advantage of slow variation of the winding reel radius and transforms an initially non-linear system into a parametric family of linear systems. In the first stage of design procedure the ‘ three-time-scale method ’ is applied and the model is decomposed in ‘ slow ’, ‘ basic ’ and ‘ fast’ subsystems. In this way the dimensionality of the model is considerably reduced. Then the state regulator method is applied to design an optimum control. The resulting Kiccati equation is simplified by an application of ‘ e-coupling ’ and ‘ radius-embedding ’ techniques. Using this method a control program is developed for the example of an existing three-stand continuous cold rolling mill. The numerical solution of the proposed feedback controller is given.

摘要:
An optimal control problem, for two classes of non-linear distributed parameter systems, is formulated. Sufficient conditions on the optimal control are derived. These conditions form a two-point boundary value problem of partial differential equations.

摘要:
The stability of an M.I.T. typo model-reference adaptive control system when subjected to random inputs and disturbances is considered. Conditions for both stability in the mean square and almost sure asymptotic stability are obtained using the theory of Markov processes, involving use of the Fokker—Planck equation, and the second method of Liapunov. Limitations and difficulty of application of the theory are discussed and the theoretical stability boundaries obtained comparod to those obtained by digital simulation of the system.

摘要:
An interesting refinement scheme suggested by Mehra (1909) for use with the conjugate gradient algorithm is modified and applied to both finite and infinite dimensional optimization problems in an attempt to improve the convergence rate of the algorithm. For optimal control problems, the numerical results indicate that, while the refinement scheme significantly improves the convergence rate, the improvement can often be matched by periodically restarting the algorithm.

摘要:
The problem of the identification of a non-linear continuous system is to a considerable extent a problem of representation of the structure of the system. A simple decomposition of a stationary single input — single output non-linear Volterra system is given, separating this system into a linear state equation and a non-linear (polynomial) output equation.
