摘要:
The classical method of estimating the impulse response of a system by cross-correlating white noise input with output is formulated in terms of stochastic differential equations. This formulation is shown to indicate that different estimates of the impulse response near the origin can be obtained depending on the interpretation of the stochastic integral involved. An interpretation is given which leads to the correct estimate. These properties are demonstrated in a numerical example, and a numerical procedure that gives the correct estimate is pointed out.

摘要:
When stabilizing linear discrete-time finite dimensional systems in control and estimation either optimally or suboptimally, technical difficulties arise in the conventional stability theories for coping with state transition matrices which are permitted to be singular or with eigenvalues arbitrarily small. In overcoming these difficulties, earlier results for feedback stabilization of linear systems and for Kalman filters and regulators are generalized in this paper, with proofs being in fact more direct than those explored earlier.

摘要:
Methods of decomposing the stability problem of a multivariable feedback system to a number of single loop stability subproblems are useful from a designer' s viewpoint because they enable multivariable design to be effected by a succession of single loop designs. Some results which make this possible are given here and are natural generalizations of those of Rosenbrock.

摘要:
The problem considered is that of using boundary heat flux control to steer the temperature in a rod from some given initial state to a prescribed final state. For rods of short to moderate length, it is well known that the control must satisfy a moment problem characterized by the eigenvalues of the system. For a long rod, viewed as one of semi-infinite length, the moment problem is replaced by an integral equation for the control. For sufficiently regular data, this integral equation can be solved explicitly for the desired control. The results further allow for the application of Tauberian theorems to relate the asymptotic time properties of the control to the asymptotic spatial properties of the final temperature state.

摘要:
A large number of papers have appeared in recent years on the use of generalized row sums and generalized column sums in the extended version of the Rosenbrock Nyquist Array design scheme for multivariable systems. Some of the authors claim that their results using these row/ column sums encompass similar results using the Hadamard property of irreducible complex matrices. It is the purpose of this note to indicate that such claims are false. On the contrary, all these results are direct consequences of the Hadamard property and can be deduced from standard results in M-matrix theory.
