摘要:
The representation of the transfer function of a linear system by a continued fraction as suggested by C. F. Chen and L. S. Shieh is shown to be non-general, and a generalized form is suggested. The mathematical basis for the simplification technique involving truncation of the continued fraction is elucidated, and different simplification techniques developed from another mathematical basis are described.

摘要:
Given a system S characterized by a transfer function, a practical method is developed for finding a system S* with proper rational transfer function of small denominator degree, such that the step response of S* is, in an appropriate sense, the baat approximant to the step response of S. The method is extended to multivariable systems. Various relations between moment and Padé approximants are derived.

摘要:
A widely used form of transfer function model is $ Two methods of approximating such transfer function models by lower order models, the continued fraction expansion of Chen and Shieh and the moments matching method of Gibilaro and Lees, are compared. It is demonstrated that these two methods can give identical results. An efficient computational procedure for the moments matching method is described and the results of computation for the reduction of a seventh-order model are given.

摘要:
To begin with we present an extension of the stability circle criterion, and some variants, for non-linear feedback systems with distributed parameter. The non-linearity is assumed to be bounded by two gains which depend on the time and the parameter and the criteria stated involve the spatial mean square of the upper and lower gain. Then systems with periodical space and time-varying gain are considered ; and for such systems, a stability criterion explained by means of the spatial mean of the mean power of the signals is stated. It is shown that this criterion is less restrictive than the similar one stated in L2space. On propose d'nbord une extension du critére de stabilityé du ecrcle, et quolques variantes, pour los systémes non linéaires a paramétro réparti. La non-linéarité est comprise entre deux gains extrémes qui dépendent explieitement du temps et du paramétro, et les critéres sunt áenoncés a l'aide de la moyenne quadratique spatinle de ces gains. Ensuite on considéré des systémes avec gain périodiquo dans l'espacc et dans le temps, et pour de tela systémes, on énonco im eritere de stabilityé qui s'exprimo a l'aide de la moyenne spatinle de la puissance moyenne des signaux. On montre que ce critéré est moins restrictif que le critéré analogue énoncé dans l'espace L2

摘要:
A new formulation for the problem of system reliability optimization when constrained by some linear constraints is presented in this paper. The formulation provided is easily adaptable to geometric programming form. The problem is further reduced to that of an optimization of an unconstrained objective function with variables one less than the number of constraints, when its dual is defined. It is amply demonstrated through this paper that the formulation and approach of this paper are simpler than earlier attempts described elsewhere. An example is also given.

摘要:
A universal algorithm is presented in the paper which makes it possible to find out whether a given relative extremum of a scalar-valued function of a vector argument is also the absolute one and, if not, to find a point at which a relative extremum-seeking procedure can be restarted in order that a better relative extremum—i.e. one at which the given function takes a less, alternatively greater, value—may be obtained. Repeated application of the described procedure in combination with an arbitrary relative extremum-seeking procedure leads to determining the absolute extremum. The possibility of application to stochastic and integer programming problems is discussed.

摘要:
There are many practical systems in existence that, provide continuous estimation of radar signal parameters. A large number of these belong to a class which performs this function by measuring variations in the energy of the demodulated received signal. A general noise fluctuation analysis of this class of signal parameter estimators is presented. The general results are applied to three systems that estimate the propagation delay of a radar signal. Specifically, the three systems represent existing radar altimeter concepts. Comparative noise fluctuation results are plotted for the three systems as a function of aircraft ground speed, altitude and other relevant system parameters.

摘要:
The effects of small parameter variations on the performance index of optimal control systems with initial and final target manifolds, free end time, and bang-bang control are analysed in this paper. A new approach to the sensitivity equation is presented. This approach takes into account the pulse-shaped variation produced by the parameter change on the bang-bang control. An expression, that relates the variations of the performance index, the trajoctory, the final time, and the parameter, is derived. This expression extends to the class of optimal systems with bang-bang control, a result previously obtained by Courtin and Rootenberg (1971).

The discrete form of the Volterra series is used to evaluate the response of a class of non-linear discrete-time systems described by an ordinary nonlinear difference equation with zero initial conditions. Recurrence relations for the Volterra kernels are developed in the time domain and in the transform domain as well.
