摘要:
A critical study of the R − x plane method (Deekshatulu 1963) has been made by application of the method to Van der Pol's equation and Duffing's equation. A number of ambiguous points have been brought out and their solutions which can be very useful are suggested.

摘要:
In this paper, the control problem associated with a diffusion system with a free boundary is considered. This problem arises physically from attempting to control the rate of solidification of a liquid. An estimate for the reachable set of free boundary points corresponding to a specified class of control functions is derived. The control problem is first formulated as an infinite-dimensional mathematical programming problem, and then approximated by a corresponding finite-dimensional problem, The convergence of the approximation is established. Typical numerical solutions are also presented.

摘要:
This paper presents some results, both practical and theoretical, from which the equivalent linearization approximation used in the analysis of two input non-linearities can be assessed. A two input equivalent linear gain is calculated for an exponential non-linearity. It is shown that this theory can be used to predict the amplitudes and frequencies of a stable, self-starting mode of oscillation containing two fundamental components at incommensurable frequencies if the amplitudes are equal. An explanation of difficulties previously encountered in this prediction is presented. † Communicated by Professor J. C. West.

摘要:
Two classes of systems are considered for the application of the multivariable Popov criterion. The first is obtained from a linear, finite-dimensional system with a state feedback law derived from a quadratic loss function minimization problem. It is shown that a non-critical part of the system is the set of transducers producing the inputs to the system, in the sense that stability is retained even when the transducers are far from ideal.

摘要:
A staircase waveform generating circuit that provides a good performance is described. Such waveforms have wide applications. The present circuit employs a simple arrangement comprised of parallel counter stages, a. diode matrix and a diode OR gate. The adjustment of the circuit is also simple and the accuracy of the waveform obtained depends primarily on good tolerance of a few resistors only.

摘要:
A new type of parameter invariance problem for linear systems is proposed. The performance measure for which invariance is desired is taken as an integral of a quadratic form in the state. Necessary and sufficient conditions for invariance are obtained. The results are interpreted and used to make an observation concerning parameter invariance in optimal control systems.

摘要:
Two dimensional non-linear multivariable systems with single valued non-linearities are analysed for stability, by replacing the non-linearities by their describing functionsN1andN2. Symmetric systems can be analysed easily as the characteristic equation can be factoriozed and the Nyquist criterion helps to find the existence of the limit cycle in the system. In the antisymmetric case, the characteristic equation is partitioned into real and imaginary parts and these are solved forN1, andN2and are plotted in theN1versusN2plane. The existence of the limit cycle is indicated by intersection of certain curves (at the same frequency) in theN1-N1plane. The stability of the limit cycle is determined by the perturbation technique.

摘要:
The parameter variation problem of optimal linear control systems with quadratic performance indices is considered. The change in performance due to persistent changes in parameters is easily evaluated by considering the performance index as the Lyapunov function. Assuming the control law to be unchanged, parameter variations that cause system performance deterioration or improvement, are studied on the parameter plane. The bounds on performance are also given. The last example deals with a piecewise linear system.
