摘要:
This note considers the time-optimal control problem for plants with positive real eigenvalues and a single saturable control input. It is demonstrated that a previous analysis (Fuller 1973, 1974 a) of plants with negative real eigenvalues in simple ratio is also applicable, with certain restrictions, to plants with positive real eigenvalues in the same simple ratio. For a second-order plant a region of controllability in the state plane is algebraically determined. For third and higher-order plants, a region of controllability is partially defined.

摘要:
The problem of eigenvalue assignment in the systemdx/dt equals; Ax + Bu, y = Dx, using the dyadic output feedback lawu = u0+ q · pTy is considered via a formulation developed earlier by the author, in whichpandqoccur in the Kronecker product vector p⊗q. The equations governing the values ofpandqwhich give an optimum approximation to a prescribed spectrum of eigenvalues are derived, and a special case is solved. Various facets of the problem of generating suboptimal solutions are discussed.

摘要:
An adaptive scheme is devised which derives the error between the state of a discrete linear system and that of a reference model to zero. The scheme can also be used to simultaneously identify all the parameters of the plant when the input is sufficiently general. Liapunov's direct method is used to establish the global asymptotic stability of the error function. An example is provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

摘要:
The main aim of the present paper is to show the variational embedding method as a powerful tool for solving control problems associated with distributed systems. It is shown that, variational embedding subsumes many approximation methods that are available in the literature for solving constitutive equations of distributed systems. The well-known method of weighted residuals and its ramifications are shown to be the appropriate specializations of the embedding method. The method thus offers a vantage point from which it is conceptually easy to see both the plurality and unity of these methods. In the process of illustrating the hierarchy of the method, the attendant dilemma associated with the method of weighted residuals is successfully resolved. The variational embedding method yields a unified approach for obtaining lumped models for distributed parameter systems. The application is demonstrated by considering examples of engineering importance, and it is shown how lumped models of non-linear distributed systems could be constructed by methods other than the conventional discretization methods.

摘要:
Homographic transformation is used in the simplification of continuous-time transfer functions by Padé approximation. It is shown that the transformation can be used to generate a family of models of the same order. That this technique offers, at least, a partial solution to the stability problem of low-order models is discussed. A numerical example is given.

摘要:
The use of the Luenberger canonical form in the state model allows the non-linear state/parameter estimation problem to be separated into two linear problems. This is illustrated for ‘a’ a deterministic system and ‘6’ a system with equal state and measurement noises. Computational results are presented. An on-line state/ parameter estimator for the innovations model of the discrete-time, linear, stochastic system is outlined.

摘要:
Six different canonical forms for the tripleA, B, Cof a linear multivariable system are discussed, namely (i) the column-companion form, (ii) the row-companion form, (iii) the output identifiable form, (iv) the input-identifiable form, (v) the controllable canonical form and (vi) the observable canonical form. Simple algorithms for transforming any system into these forms are proposed and illustrated by means of examples. Practical applications of the various forms are discussed.
