摘要:
The time optimal control of particular second–order systems with constant transport lags is determined by application of Pontryagin's Maximum Principle. A system with a delayed control and a system with a delayed state are considered. The optimal control for these systems is compared with the optimal control of a similar system which does not contain transport lag. It is found that the optimal control is essentially bang–bang but that it is non–unique under certain conditions.

摘要:
A simple analytical method is developed to obtain the time response of second-order non–linear overdamped systems with a small non–linearity based on the Krylov— Bogoliubov method of variation of parameters. The solutions obtained for different initial conditions for a second–order system whose linear equation has real roots show good agreement with those obtained by numerical integration.

摘要:
In the synthesis of control systems it is usually necessary to satisfy several properties simultaneously. In this work seven properties, which will be called Characteristics, are studied and presented as graphs, thereby presenting a new presentation of servo systems to aid in synthesis. In addition a property called equivalence is explored which permits the converting of many real singularities into one and vice versa. Also the concept of region of influence for real singularities is studied and summarized.

摘要:
In this paper time-domain models for sensitivity analyses of linear systems have been developed. The procedures for developing those models are quite similar to the formulation of state models which are based on graph-theoretic concepts. Sensitivity analyses with respect to variations in component values, the initial conditions and the driving functions appear as three different facets of the same analytical procedure. These models admit a very convenient interpretation in terms of networks which properly can be exploited for digital computer studies. Additionally, attention is focused on developing sensitivity models for three specific types of interconnection, viz. parallel, cascade and feedback. On the basis of these models, the effect of system structure on sensitivity is studied.

摘要:
In this paper a rigorous method is presented for analysing an M.I.T. type model reference adaptive control system with sinusoidal inputs. The linearized equations for the adapting system, formed by using small perturbation analysis, are written in the matrix form ẋ = A(t)x, where A(t) is periodic. This matrix equation is then integrated over one period using a Runge–Kutta technique. The transition matrix relating the value of x at the end of a period to its value at the beginning of the period is examined to see whether all its eigenvalues are within the unit circle, thus establishing stability.

摘要:
The problem of progressive interpolation in the presence of coloured noise is re-examined and another algorithm for the error covariance is formulated. This is used along with previous results to formulate an algorithm for the error covariance for a lagging filter of coloured noise.

摘要:
The paper considers a process having a quadratic performance criterion, the measurement of which is affected by known process time lags and by noise, the distribution of which is assumed known, and in which the position of the optimum is affected by disturbances. The performance criterion is deemed controllable by a single control variable.

摘要:
Certain non-linear systems can be transformed into equivalent linear systems using power law transformations of the dependent variable. The conditions for obtaining a real solution using this technique are examined for an example non-linear oscillator. Although the requirement of a real solution can place restrictions on the parameters of the equation, a technique is suggested whereby a real solution can be obtained to an approximating equation which differs from the actual equation by an arbitrarily small amount.
