摘要:
Modern theories of automatic control have virtually ignored one of the oldest and most fundamental problems of control—the problem of controlling systems subjected to persistently acting, unknown external disturbances.

摘要:
This paper deals with the problem of minimal-time control of a class of linear distributed-parameter systems whose input function is subject to multiple-norm constraints. The method reduces the multiple-norm constraints into an equivalent composite-norm functional. The method ofL-theory of moments is used to obtain the solution. The method gives rise to three auxiliary problems:

摘要:
A successive approximation algorithm based on the second-order expansion of the performance index is developed for a general class of non-linear distributed-parameter systems with non-linear functional boundary conditions. Necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for convergence, which are independent of the system dynamics, are satisfied and are readily tested for a wider class of control problems than those of the standard second-variation algorithm. Two non-linear examples, one with a distributed control and one with a spatially independent control, provide a comparison of the computational efficiencies of both second-order methods. Because of the absence of the system adjoint equations in the present technique the time required per iteration is less than that of the standard algorithm with very little sacrifice in the rate of convergence.

摘要:
The filtering and smoothing problems are studied for a class of distributed-parameter information and control systems described by linear partial differential or integro-differential equations. The results are first derived in discrete-time form following a Bayesian information processing approach and are then converted in continuous-time form using an extension of Kalman's limiting procedure. The paper concludes by showing how the results should be formally used for treating nonlinear systems. The filters derived here are the most general and involve the distributed-parameter filters derived by other authors as special cases.

摘要:
An analytical method is developed For selecting the optimum gain in a linear feedback control system with first derivative action. Based on the stability considerations the method simultaneously derives the coefficient of the derivative action corresponding to the critical gain. Examples are presented at the end of the paper which are verified by the known graphical technique.

摘要:
The objective of this investigation is to determine correlation between engineering observations of system sensitivity compared to analytically computed sensitivity parameters. A two-loop system representative of an aircraft altitude control system, designed by the compensation parameter variation technique is presented as an example. Sensitivity observations are made of the behaviour of the system poles in the complex plane. For the inner loop reasonable correlation was found between the observed pole sensitivities and the computed Bode pole sensitivities. For the outer-loop system also the computed Bode pole sensitivities showed good correlation with the observed outer-loop pole sensitivities, but not with the observed output sensitivities.

摘要:
An intuitive approach to the convolution problem allows the transient response sensitivity of zero velocity lag servomechanisms to be readily sketched. This procedure leads to a considerable insight into the advantages of feedback compensation in sensitivity reduction; this is much greater than any advantage obtained in choosing between alternative unity feedback designs, and is confirmed by Monte Carlo simulation. Prediction of transient response sensitivity to parameters other than system gain is readily achieved and illustrated by the prediction of the relative importance of elemental blocks of a sixth-order aircraft blind landing system.

摘要:
Ho and Kalman (1965) have given an elegant method for the determination ofA, B,C, Dmatrices from the given transfer-function matrix by constructing Markov parameters, etc. Based on the reverse of their approach, a direct method for the evaluation of transfer function matrix from the given state equations has been proposed.

摘要:
The design of compensators for a control system requires a knowledge of the dynamics of such systems. In this paper a pneumatic elbow is analysed mathematically and the development of an analogue of the system is described.
