摘要:
A new design procedure is presented for assigning closed-loop eigenvalues of multi-variable, linear systems using output feedback control. Subject to certain mild restrictions, the number of poles which can be assigned to arbitrary, distinct locations is mill [m+r− 1,n], wherem, randnare the dimensions of the output, control and state vectors, respectively. The design procedure provides an extension of the results of Davison and Chatterjee (1971) and Jameson (1970) but allows a significantly larger number of eigenvalues to be assigned. The simplicity of the design procedure is demonstrated by a numerical example.

摘要:
A two-step procedure for stable time-suboptimal control is proposed. The procedure involves the use of two feedback gain matrices. The first matrix is determined to transfer the system from a given state to the vicinity of the desired state in minimum time. Then a switch is made to a second feedback gain matrix obtained from shifting of eigenvalues For maximum stability. The viability of the proposed procedure is demonstrated with a linear six-p!ate gas absorber and a non-linear two-stage CSTR system.

摘要:
The transfer function matrix of a largo multi-input/multi-output linear stochastic time-invariant control system may be computationally prohibitive to estimate and may not provide a good interpretation of the underlying structure of the system. Priestley, Rao and Tong have suggested a method, using information theoretic and statistical criteria, for reducing the dimensions of the system, and thus, to some extent, overcoming these difficulties. The feasibility of these methods has already been shown using a simulated control system : its practicality in the real situation is now demonstrated on a relatively small data set taken on a multi-input/multi-output system, a chemical engineering plant.

The singular control test is applied to periodic control problems of a continuous distillation process in order to determine if the optimal periodic control is proper. It is also shown that the singular control test is easier to apply than the w-teat for the problems of concern. Some numerical calculations are carried out for seeking the optimal periodic controls.

Methods are given how to find the coefficients of this infinite series in the form of a recursive formula, or in the form of a tree structure. An example is given to illustrate the method.

Various equivalent definitions of cyclicity are given. The problem of converting a non-cyclic system to a cyclic one, by means of constant output feedback, is considered, This problem arises as an intermediate problem in many state or output feedback pole-assignment algorithms. It is shown that the problem has an infinite number of solutions.

摘要:
This paper is concerned with (1) the problem of the construction of lower-order models and (2) the Telated problem of the order determination of a real system based upon an estimated model with an overestimated order. Methods of the construction of stable lower-order models and the system-order determination are proposed. The approach adopted is to obtain a minimal realization of the original system by taking the principal components of the predictors of the outputs as the state and then to construct reduced models based upon a measure of reducibility defined in connection with the minimal realization algorithm. The measure of reducibility is useful to get a priori information about how small the order of the reduced model can be without much deterioration. Simulation studies are also carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the measure of reducibility and the proposed methods.

This paper presents an optimal control algorithm for linear systems with measurement noise which has a Markov dependent statistical property. Ordinarily, the optimal control for this problem involves a very large number of sequences, and the usual calculation method becomes impractical. In the algorithm proposed here, the optimal control is calculated with a relatively small number of sequences, sampled at random from the set of all the sequences.

Digital control algorithms suitable for insertion in a multivariable adaptive control configuration are developed. An application of the invariance principle enables the attainment of a range of control objectives with the controllers structured in pre-compensator/feedback form. Feedforward control is considered. In instances the invaritmee-developed controllers are demonstrated equivalent to suboptimal control with quadratic performance index. The techniques are illustrated by results of simulations.

摘要:
The matrix continued fraction technique is utilized to obtain the minimal realization of a transfer-function matrix with various inputs and outputs. If the ratio of the rank and the order of a square transfer-function matrix is an integer and there are no numerically ill-conditional elements in the matrix, then the matrix Routh algorithm is applied for the minimal realization. A method is also presented to deal with ill-conditional cases.
