摘要:
An analytical method of synthesizing two or more non-linear characteristics put in parallel or in series, is described in the present study. The method is based on set theory and is restricted to non-linear elements described by piecewise linear characteristics, which may be single or double valued.

摘要:
This paper considers the problem of generating sub-optimal controls for non-linear single input systems, with quadratic performance indexes. The control generated is a linear combination of the states with piecewise constant coefficients, and is obtained by a repeated linearization of the system. Several examples illustrate this technique and compare it with other methods.

摘要:
The optimal continuous-filtering problem for the caso of linear dynamics, linear measurements, and gaussian whito disturbance and measurement noise has been Solved by Kalman and Buey. In this study, their rosults are generalized for the caso where measurement noise is a Gauss—Markov process, but without the technique of state augmentation, as has already been done. Proof is presented that the optimal continuous-filtering problem can be solved by simply replacing the observation vector with a derived observation vector and an initial condition. When the derived observation vector is used, coloured noise is eliminated and only the standard Kalman filter problem, easily solvable, remains.

摘要:
The transient stability of an a.c. generator is analysed by utilizing Lyapunov's direct method. Lyapunov functions are developed, which include the effects of flux docay and simplified representations of speed governer and voltage regulator. It is shown that Lyapunov's method can be utilized to estimate reasonably accurately the critical fault clearing time with considerably fewer computations and in much shorter time than by conventional techniques. Furthermore, it is shown how a Lyapunov function can indicate the relative effects of various factors on the stability property of a generator.

When the plant contains a pure delay and the control signal is subject to a saturation constraint, the optimal controller and optimal performance can often be calculated, provided the corresponding results in the delay-free case are known. Several examples of the technique are given in the present paper. Some sub-optimal controllers are also discussed.

摘要:
This paper is concerned with the application of photo-conductors as variable operational resistor elements in iterative analogue computation. Suitable control circuits have been devised which achieve a linear relationship between a controlling voltage level and the resistance of the variable operational element. The use of crystal lumps in conjunction with silicon photo-detectors enables control circuit settling times of the order of 180 µsec to be achieved and results indicate that with the correct choice of detector, the speed of the controlled response is limited only by the performance of the operational amplifier in the control circuit.

A simple technique for the evaluation of the transient response of one zero, three pole systems is presented, There is no fundamental restriction on the pole-zero geometry, although the results presented here are for systems wherein all three poles contributes significantly to the transient response. The system zero may be anywhere on the positive or negative real axis.
