摘要:
A third-order relay control system, controlled by means of the predictive strategies of Billingsley and Coales (1968), is studied. Expressions are given for a separatrix defined by the basic strategy, the switching surface defined by the modified strategy, and the settling time for a step response. The separatrix and some switching surfaces are represented by curves in a reduced state space. The results of the present paper were asserted, but not proved, in a previous paper.

摘要:
Tho problem of stability properties for the solutions of non-linear delay-differential equations ia considered. The approach used is to study the behaviour of the solution -of non-linear delay-differential equations with respect to solutions of a linear delay-differential equation.

摘要:
This paper reconsiders the problem of designing an optimal dynamic compensator based on a minimal-order Luenberger observer, for the regulation of an nth order linear time-invariant plant. The usual quadratic cost on the state and control is averaged over initial plant state values. Necessary conditions for the optimal compensator are obtained. An explicit solution is found which contradicts some previously published results.

摘要:
Two sets of non-linear partial differential equations are dealt with. Each of these sets serves as sufficient conditions for optimum. A numerical procedure for solving these equations is suggested. The procedure is applied over a large class of problems and the results verify the applicability of the method.

摘要:
The synthesis of infinite memory digital filters for the operations of smoothing, filtering, prediction and differentiation is described. In the design, constraints are developed using a polynomial approximation to the signal. The noise is then minimized subject to the constraints using the method of Lagrangian multipliers.

摘要:
This paper attempts to formulate perturbation and sensitivity analyses and develops the basic equations of design sensitivity for an optimal control process, damping the vibration of an elastic beam. The set of differential equations forming a necessary condition of process optimality and design optimality is given, and an approximate necessary condition is devoloped subject to additional ‘ smallnes3 ’ assumptions concerning some terms of the original set of equations. Finally a sensitivity analysis is performed concerning the design parameter alone.

摘要:
This paper considers the on-line identification of a non-linear system in terms of a Hammerstein model, with a zero-memory non-linear gain followed by a linear system. The linear part is represented by a Laguerre expansion of its impulse response and the non-linear part by a polynomial. The identification procedure involves determination of the coefficients of the Laguerre expansion of correlation functions and an iterative adjustment of the parameters of the non-linear gain by gradient methods.

摘要:
Given a multi-input, multi-output linear time-invariant system, equations have been derived to characterize a system of lower dimension which optimally approximates the given system with respect to the sum of squared errors of the impulse response. Here expressions are developed for the derivative of the penalty function with respect to all parameters of the approximating system, thus enabling the use of gradient methods to minimize approximation errors.
