摘要:
Kron's polyhedron model based on a sequence of transformations related to the orthogonal electrical network problem was proposed for a wide range of system problems. The scattering formulation for a flow process introduces a similar sequence of ‘ obstacles ’ and can form an analytical basis for many of the concepts discussed by Kron. It can be associated with the system problems incorporating an optimality condition and the updating of aprioriinformation, and can also be identified in the sweep method of solution of the two-point boundary-value problems for optimal control and estimation, which would appear to be related to the concept of wave propagation in Kron's model. The sequential networks in the polyhedron model and the scattering problem thus provide a basic analytical structure which has important applications in general systems theory.

摘要:
Basic phenomena of H+and H− ion concentration process are considered, and state apace models are derived for a basic continuous flow system. Inherent non-linearity of the system can he avoided by a change of variables, hut due to the logarithmic measurement via pH the corresponding feedback control system is highly nonlinear.

摘要:
The theory and procedures for the determination of an optimumpth-order nonlinear. time-invariant, model of a given system is developed in this article. The model determined is optimum in the sense that, with the input being from a Gaussian process, the mean-square difference between its output and that of the given system is the smallest possible. An analysis of the mean-square error also is presented. In addition, a Parseval theorem for nonlinear systems is derived from which a measure ofpth-order non-linearity for a given system is obtained.

摘要:
This article considers the stability ofn-input-n-output, linear time invariant convolution feedback systems. Stability theorems are expressed in terms of the Nyquist plots of the eigenvalues of Gcirc(s) where s varies along the Nyquist contour in the complex plane and Ĝ(s) is the transfer function of the open loop system which is allowed to have poles in the right half plane. Our objectives are to state clearly these theorems and to prove them. The paper investigates the geometry of the eigenvalues in the complex plane; in particular, the properties of the eigenvalues on and near the exceptional points, and the graph theoretic properties of the loci of the eigenvalues are studied. The stability theorems are proved using these geometric properties.

摘要:
A quasilinearization algorithm is proposed for the computation of optimal control of a class of constrained problem. The constraints are inequality constraints on functions of the state and control variables, and bounds on the values of the control variables. Necessary conditions for optimal control of the control problem are derived. In the iterative procedure, no prior information is required regarding the sequence of constrained and unconstrained arcs and the inequality constraints which are on their boundaries along a specific constrained arc of the optimal trajectory. All this information will be determined within the iterative procedure using some necessary conditions for optimal control. The ability of the proposed algorithm to solve practical problems is demonstrated by its application to several variations of two problems, one of which is a common manipulator problem in industry where transportation of open vessels of liquid is to be performed in a specified period of time. It is shown that the proposed quasilinearization algorithm is an effective tool in deriving optimal control policies for a common type of manipulator operation in industry.

摘要:
An extended Kalman filter is applied to a stainless-steel manufacturing operation in order to estimate the molten metal composition in real time. A recently developed process model forms the basis of the filter. The performance of the estimator is tested for several levels of measurement information and for both continuous and discrete samples. The results indicate that reliable estimates of the metal bath composition can be obtained even when only bath temperature can be measured.

摘要:
Barr and Gilbert (1966, 1969 b) have presented computing algorithms for converting a brood class of optimal control problems (including minimum time, and fixed-time minimum fuel, energy and effort problems) to a sequence of optimal regulator problems, using a one dimensional search of the cost variable. These Barr and Gilbert algorithms, which use quadratic programming algorithms by the same authors (1969 a) to solve the resulting optimal regulator problems, are restricted to dynamic equations linear in state by virtue of using the convexity and compactness (Neustadt 1963) and contact function (Gilbert 1966) of the reachable set

摘要:
The General Search Algorithm (GSA) previously presented by Katz (1974) has been extended to cover fixed time minimum effort problems and minimum time problems, having possible singular arcs, in problems where there is no a priori knowledge of the singular arcs. The conditions on the control set, the differential equations of state, and the state and control constraints are similar to those in the previous work, as is the dependence of the local-minimum convergence proof upon assumed convergence of a substep algorithm (Katz 1974) for non-linear optimal regulator problems

摘要:
Singular perturbation methods are used to reduce the design of stabilizing feedback controllers for a class of (n+m)th order multivariable linear systems to the design of stabilizing feedback controllers for an associated class ofnth order systems obtained by ignoring ‘ parasitic ’ elements which correspond to the presence of a small parameter in the state equations of the (n+m)th order systems.
