摘要:
Implementation of the Maximum Principle by a continuous gradient search for the extremals of a restrained Hamiltonian function, allows gross solution errors to occur from changes in the search velocity vector. The nature of these errors is outlined and two search speed control strategies are presented for overcoming the solution error problem. Experimental results from an analogue computer study demonstrate the relative values of the alternative speed control techniques in illustrative examples with linear and non-linear system performance functions.

摘要:
A study is made of various statistical properties of a particular non-Gaussian process, the low-pass filtered random telegraph signal. Results are obtained for the distribution of slope, the average numbers of zero and level crossings, the average number of crossings with a straight line, distributions of maxima and minima and the average number of specular points. As a prelude to these specific investigations, general expressions for the average numbers of crossings of random processes with arbitrary curves are derived. In particular, for the average number of zero-crossings of a stationary random process, the result does not explicitly involve the joint distribution of the process and its derivative.

摘要:
This paper considers the problem of state estimation in a noisy medium of a process described by a linear partial differential equation subject to multiple time delays in the system model as well as in the observation process. The filter equations for the optimal estimate and variance are obtained in the form of partial integro-differential equations, the complexity of which depends on the system.

摘要:
In conventional control theory the techniques for achieving some or all of the desired figures of merit have been highly developed (D'Azzo and Houpis 1966). Modern control theory optimizes a system performance based upon a desired performance index, PI. The work of Rynaski and Whitbeek (1966) is extended to form the basis for the correlation between the conventional control figures of merit (Mp, tp, tsand wd, and steady-state error) and the diagonal elements of the Q matrix of the quadratic PI (the off-diagonal terms being zero). This correlation is established for a third-order single-input, single-output system, enabling a system designer to optimize a system and at the same time satisfying some or all of the conventional figures of merit.

摘要:
The problem of decoupling (diagonalization) of non-linear systems has been considered and an extension of the results of Porter (1970) has been obtained. The decoupling of non-linear multivariable differential systems is illustrated by threo examples.

摘要:
The objective of this paper is the extension of optimally sensitive control techniques to distributed parameter systems. In particular, these adaptive control techniques are applied to distributed systems in which either the initial states or a vector of constant plant parameters are unknown. The result is the synthesis of a feedback control structure that adapts the nominal open-loop control in such a manner as to compensate for the errors introduced by model uncertainties. This requires defining the sensitivity matrices and deriving a set of distributed equations whose solution yields the requisite sensitivity matrices.
