摘要:
In this paper a periodically time-varying lattice network has been represented in terms of various matrices (transmission,z, y, handg). This enabled a generalized study which is advantageous since it brings out, in a systematic manner, the important properties of this network. The matrix method used here may prove useful also in dealing with other features of this network and other types of periodically time-varying networks.

摘要:
This paper describes an adaptive scheme for controlling linear and non-linear plant whose dynamics are initially unknown. After an initial start-up period, the control law to maintain plant control, according to a pre-determined performance criterion, is identified from state and input data using a linear regression procedure. This involves an on-line digital computer interfaced to the plant and interrogating the plant at a constant rate.

摘要:
Various techniques which may be used to eliminate the effect of low-frequency disturbances or drift on process identification using pseudo-random sequences are derived and discussed. Extensions to existing methods will enable the elimination of the effect of arbitrarily high powers in the power series description of the disturbance.

摘要:
Response of linear systems with optimum controllers which do not require measurement of all state variables may be very sensitive to plant parameter variaitons. Previous results show that if these designs contain free parameters, the effect of variations of plant parameters on the performance index can be reduced significantly. This paper proves and generalizes some results previously given. A controllability concept in sensitivity design is denned which allows the designer to find the parameters of the controller which reduces plant sensitivity. The necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of the nominal system are given. If these conditions are not satisfied, then the controller parameters cannot be determined to minimize any selected measure of system sensitivity. An algorithm is proposed to solve for optimal and insensitive system to plant parameter variations for all initial conditions. The algorithm is very powerful and efficient and is not limited to low-order systems. An example is included to illustrate the design procedure.

摘要:
Convenient second-order sufficiency conditions are given first for constrained relative minima. These sufficiency conditions then are implemented as computational methods for solving constrained parameter optimization problems arising in control. Second-order partial derivatives need not be computed directly when a min-max modification of these computational methods is used in conjunction with the Fletchor-Powell method for unconstrained problems. Comparisons with previously published methods are included in the form of an example.

摘要:
For the quadratic cost, non-linear, adaptive stochastic control problem with linear plant and measurement models excited by white gaussian noise, and unknown time-invariant model parameters, the optimal stochastic control is obtained and shown to separate (‘non-linear separation theorem’) into a bank of model-conditional deterministic controller gains and a corresponding bank of known non-linear functional of the model-conditional, causal, mean-square state-vector estimates. This separation may also be viewed as a decomposition of the optimal, non-linear adaptive control into a bank of model-conditional, optimal, non-adaptive linear controls, one for each admissible value fof the unknown parameter θ and a nonlinear part, namely the bank of aposteriorimodel probabilities, which incorporate the adaptive nature, of the optimal adaptive control. Results are given for a special case of the above problem— namely, uncertainty in the measurement matrix—that exhibit drastically reduced computational requirements. In this special case, we have explicit separation between control and estimation, and it is shown that only one deterministic controller is required to be used with the non-linear, adaptive, mean-square state-vector estimate.

摘要:
The purpose of this paper is to show how the stability of limit cycles in third and higher-order systems having non-linearities with a real describing function can be ascertained from the negative slope of the describing function at its point of intersection with a locus dependent on the coefficients of the numerator and denominator polynomials of the transfer function. It is also shown that the amplitude of stable oscillations depends both on the non-linearity and the linear part of the plant and can be determined from the point of intersection whereas the frequency is independent of the non-linearity and can be computed from the coefficients of the linear plant alone. In the case of an all-pass transfer function and for a specific non-linearity the amplitude depends on the gain but is independent of the coefficients of the linear plant. The maximum gain giving stable limit cycles can be related to the non-linearity and the coefficients of the linear plant.

摘要:
This paper is concerned with an optimal non-linear feedback control scheme with a limit set configuration inn-dimensional state space as the control objective. First, the limit set including its fine structure is characterized. The the control aspects of the problem are considered by variational methods. The control is determined in closed form and shown to provide a global minimum of a general performance index.

摘要:
A numerical comparison is made of most published methods for solving the linear matrix equations which arise when a quadratic form Liapunov function is applied to a constant linear system (continuous or discrete, real or complex). Generally, for the real equations direct methods are satisfactory for systems of order ten or less, whereas for larger order systems iterative methods (based upon expressing the solution in terms of an infinite series) are to be preferred. For the complex equations the most convenient numerical method uses an explicit representation for the solution in terms of the eigenvalues and vectors of the system matrix. If the system matrix is in companion form then algorithms taking account of this structure offer minor improvements.
