摘要:
The nature and existence of recurrent trajectories have been considered in this final paper on the stability properties of discrete-continuous systems with signal dependent sampling. Simulation results illustrate the complexity which may arise in recurrent trajectories and furthermore demonstrate the effect of ‘stability control’ in a signal dependent sampling system. These results lead to the concepts of ‘controllable stability’ and ‘controllable quality’ of which the former has been considered in some detail.

摘要:
A direct second-variational method is proposed for solving free-time, free-endpoint optimal control problems. By introducing a time-scaling factor and a reduced-time coordinate, the original free-endpoint problem is transformed into a fixed-time problem in the reduced-time domain. In this framework, Newton's method is applied to the optimality criterion and the transversality condition, in order to arrive at a scheme for simultaneous correction in the control policy and in final time. The resulting algorithm does not involve a Riccati transformation nor requires the solution of other sensitivity equations, and is therefore a decided improvement over existing methods. For illustrative purposes the method is applied to the temperature optimization of a tubular reactor of unspecified length.

The effect of pole-zero geometry on the impulse response of low-order linear systems has been established, and a theorem presented for the existence of sign changes in the response of three-pole, one-zero systems. Impulse domain approximations are investigated, and a straightforward parameter estimation procedure developed. The paper is a contribution to the knowledge required for the exploitation of pseudorandom binary sequences for system dynamic testing.

This paper is concerned with the problem of sampled-data control of a multi-variable system when only one control variable may be used at a time. A quasi-optimal system for time-sharing control is designed via the direct method of Lyapunov. The design specifies control lows and the decision criterion for utilization of the controller. It is shown that even with simplified decision criteria, stability properties are preserved. The method is developed for continuous plants containing at most a single integration. The results also apply to the classical adaptive-sampling problem where the objective is simply to conserve the number of controlling sampling intervals for a single process. A numerical example is presented of the time-shared control of four second-order systems, each containing an integration.

摘要:
Most modern methods of network synthesis assume that the required transfer functions are realized by networks operating in the continuous time domain. In this paper it is shown that when these continuous networks are operated in a time domain which is a sub-set of the continuous domain, a compression in the frequency response results. This compression ratio is equal to the sub-set of continuous time domain.
