An interpretation of the Kaczmarz algorithm (Kaczmarz 1937) is given and the application of this algorithm to the weight training process in learning control systems employing neural networks is explained. The paper concludes with a brief account of the life and tragic death of Kaczmarz himself.

摘要:
This paper presents a new approach to the explicit identification of an input time delay in continuous-time linear systems. The system model is converted to a discrete-time version, assuming that a digital computer is to be used for time delay estimation and control. A recursive identification algorithm based on parallel Kalman filtering and Bayes' estimation is developed. The sampling rate is adapted during the time delay estimation process using the most recent estimate of the time delay. This method assures that the estimate of the time delay approaches the true value with each successive iteration. The proposed method also has the advantage of a fast convergence rate because prior knowledge of the delay, if available, can be effectively utilized.

Computation of all possible frequency responses of a linear system that depends onmuncertain parameters is the subject of this paper. Using a brute force approach, this computation could be carried out using an (m+ l)-dimensional parameter sweep, i.e. there is the usual frequency sweep plus one sweep for each uncertain parameter. A much simpler computational alternative is possible if the uncertain system's transfer function has a linear dependence on the parameters and if the set of possible parameter values has a polytopic structure. For this class of uncertain systems, it has previously been shown that, for a single fixed frequency, all possible responses can be determined using several 1-dimensional sweeps. Thus, for a range of frequencies, the obvious extension would involve several 2-dimensional sweeps. However, this obvious extension is not the simplest way to carry out the computation. Indeed, this paper will show that all possible responses for a range of frequencies can be determined using just a finite number of 1-dimensional sweeps. This result is applicable to both continuous-time and discrete-time systems.

This paper considers the problem of a causal state observer for a square singular system. Necessary and sufficient conditions for solvability of the problem have been established. The approach of this study leads to a new insight concerning synthesis of a causal observer, and establishes new results with regard to the structure and the dimension of a reduced-order observer for singular systems.

Modern microprocessor capabilities permit the control designer to consider using relatively complicated nonlinear control algorithms, which would have been considered impractical in the past. This paper presents the results of a study of the variable structure control technique for the design of excitation and governor controllers for a power system. Control laws for rotor angle and field flux are derived. The closed loop system is shown to be asymptotically stable. The system can be transferred to a new operating condition corresponding to any desired terminal voltage Vt, and tie-line power Ptie.

Considerable though the benefits offeedbackcontrol are, they donotextend to ameliorating adverse multivariable plant dynamical characteristics that are of a structural nature.Feedforwardcontrol on the other hand, is shown in this paper to complement multivariable feedback control in a simple but powerful way by providing a strikingly direct resolution of such structural difficulties as non-minimum phase plant behaviour, plant excessive structure sensitivity (uncertainty in the number of channel RHPZs), plant excessive phase sensitivity, and decoupling without increasing system uncertainty. This use of feedforward is believed to be new and is completely different from the well-known application of feedforward control to anticipate and counteract the effect of some known plant disturbance before it affects the output, as widely used in the process industries. The paper ends with a complete statement of the philosophy and methodology of multivariable control, feedforwardandfeedback, within the context of the individual channel design of 2-input 2-output systems (O'Reilly and Leithead 1991). In particular, it is pointed out that it is immaterial which multivariable technique is used to determine the feedback controller for the plant amended by feedforward, although diagonal controller matrices are preferred (Leithead and O'Reilly 1992b) otherwise, if the feedback controller is non-diagonal, the extent to which the sensitivity to system uncertainty is increased should be checked (Leithead and O'Reilly 1992b, O'Reilly and Leithead 1993).

摘要:
A multivariable self-tuning controller with a proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID) structure is derived. The algorithm features a combination of the self-tuning property, in which the controller parameters are tuned automatically on-line, and also the structure of a multivariable PID controller, making it more favourable to be used in industry. A stability proof of the algorithm is also presented here. Comparison of the performance of the algorithm with a fixed, tuned, multivariable PID controller in the simulation examples demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
