For a plant of higher order with a control subject to a saturation constraint, Gulko has given a predictive control strategy which involves the use of nested models operating on fast time scales. In the present paper it is proved that the strategy gives time-optimal transition to the state origin.

摘要:
For some cases of plants with lags and with saturable control input, time-optimal switching functions are calculated explicitly. The resulting functions are simple and do not involve transcendental expressions such as logarithms or exponentials. Consequently the systems are easily simulated on a digital computer, and are convenient as test cases in sensitivity investigations and in comparisons with sub-optimal systems.

The control of systems having time-delays in their control paths is considered and feedback laws are developed. A linear system is proposed and a quadratic criterion is optimized over an infinite interval to obtain time-invariant laws. A particularly simple law obtained by the solution of a non-delayed problem can be developed when all controls are delayed by the same amount, but when each control is delayed by a different amount the solution becomes quite complicated. Nevertheless this paper shows how solutions can be obtained by solving a sequence of tracking problems. In contrast to the state-delayed problem, where non-linear partial differential equations need be solved, only ordinary differential equations with single-point boundary values need be solved for the control-delayed problem. The time-invariant feedback law obtained involves a knowledge of the time-delay storages and performs a linear operation on these. The kernels of this operation cannot in general be derived as impulse responses of lumped systems.

摘要:
If a periodic force is applied to a non-linear feedback system, several different responses may be possible. This paper introduces new graphical techniques, based on the well-known describing function method, for obtaining first estimates of these responses and their stability. Once a solution has been found graphically, more information about the solution and its stability can be got by using algorithms derived from the properties of the describing function matrix. The algorithms make it simple to find approximate solutions of high order, thus resolving any doubts about the correctness of first-order predictions and also allowing solutions to be found as exactly as desired.

In this paper a method is given for obtaining a mathematical model of a class of black boxes having multiple inputs and multiple outputs in terms of Ito stochastic integral equations. This method is applicable to the class of black boxes having ergodic correlation functions when there is zero applied input. The point of view adopted in this paper is phenomenological in that it is desired that calculations made using the mathematical model should be ‘ close ’ to what is actually observed at the output of the black box.

摘要:
A technique for approximating harmonic, periodic solutions of a class of non-linear equations involving u saturation non-linearity is applied to a fourth-order equation which describes an electrical circuit containing a non-linear amplifying element. The computational effort required to obtain the closed-form approximation which this method yields is compared with that required for a numerical solution by the conventional methods of quasilinearization and patching. The various methods use comparable amounts of computer time, but the other classical methods do not offer the advantage of the closed-form approximation which our technique provides.

The tracking problem for a non-linear dynamic system with a noisy non-linear observation system ia discussed from the viewpoint of the stochastic approximation method. Convergence to the optimal setting with probability one and in the mean square is proved in the case where the time-variation mechanism of optimal setting is a non-linear and deterministic one, and convergence within a bound is proved for the random trend case. The asymptotic convergence rate is derived for the former case and a convergence acceleration technique is proposed. Digital simulation studies illustrate the above considerations.
