摘要:
The optimal selection of measurements in finite and infinite dimensional filtering systems is considered. The function space approach is followed and an optimization procedure, in a general operator formulation, is established for systems with continuous dynamics and continuous-time or intermittent measurements. The optimality index follows from the functional properties of the covariance operator and it is deduced to be the trace of the operator at the system terminal time. For computational purposes, orthogonal collocation is used to transform the infinite dimensional systems into finite dimensional ones, and the conditions under which minimizing the trace of the covariance operator is equivalent to minimizing the trace of the resulting covariance matrix are established. The kernel representation of the optimization procedure for the tubular-flow reactor system with intermittent, point-value measurements is presented. The optimal locations of sensors placed either simultaneously or sequentially in the space region are calculated, and it is shown that for a given number of sensors the locations are quite dissimilar and the trace of the terminal covariance operator of the former is less than that of the latter.

摘要:
This paper proposes a method for designing a dynamic precompensator for a multi-variable linear system, so as to make the transfer-function matrix of the compensated system diagonal at a specified set of frequencies. The properties of the resulting compensator are investigated, together with the approach to exact diagonalization as the complexity of the structure is increased.

摘要:
This paper arose from the need for a better understanding of the minimum time state regulation problem of finite-dimensional linear time-invariant discrete systems with an incomplete state observation. For this we used a geometric approach and obtained the following interesting results. First, the necessary and sufficient condition of the existence of controllers which regulate the system from any initial state to the origin in finite steps is that the system is controllable and reconstructable. Secondly, the general minimum regulation time is obtained, which is the maximum value of the minimum regulation time. Thirdly, two typical controllers which drive the system from any initial state to the origin in the general minimum regulation time are designed. One is a time-variant system taking the system's input and output of each time as input. The other is a time-invariant system. Fourthly, it is shown that the controller does not necessarily exist which transfers the system to the origin in the minimum regulation time from any initial state.

摘要:
Sufficient conditions for decoupling by state feedback are developed for several classes of time-varying systems which contain time delays. The sufficient conditions are constructive in nature since they can be used to design the decoupler. Two numerical examples are included to illustrate the design procedure.

摘要:
This paper considers the problem of stabilizing a linear time-invariant multivariable system by using local feedback controllers and some limited information exchange among local stations. The problem of achieving a given degree of stability with minimum transmission cost is solved.

摘要:
When the electron loss in a toroidal plasma is very high, such that the electron temperature does not vary appreciably during neutral-injection heating as observed in the T.F.R. experiments, one can use a single-temperature model to describe the heating dynamics. Based on this model, the problem of finding an injection-current program I = 1(1) with 0 ≤ I(t) ≤ Imax< ∞ which heats the ions to a specified temperature and minimizes the heating time or the injection energy over a fixed time-duration, is considered. It is shown that the optimal I takes on the value 0 or Imaxover the injection period. Also, the dynamics and stability of a feedback-controlled injection system are analysed. The results suggest the possibility of using automatic control for close regulation of ion temperature in a toroidal plasma with neutral injection. Finally, the problem of identifying the ion-diffusion law by measuring the ion temperature over a finite time duration is explored.

摘要:
A new deterministic ‘ least-squares-like gradient’ method is presented for the identification of discrete processes. The method is gradient-based and physically similar to the recursive least-squares method. The novel gradient method is based on a stability concept (Liapunov's second method) yielding new views on the estimation procedure and. more degrees of freedom compared with least-sqviares methods. The method can be applied for linear and a class of non-linear (multivariate) processes with slowly time-varying unknown parameters.

摘要:
A method to improve the quality of simplified aggregated models of systems is presented. It consists in the introduction of delays in the output vector of the aggregated model to minimize a quality index, function of the output error vector. Necessary conditions to obtain the optimal performance index for a given order model are derived and the solution of the resulting equations is discussed. Finally, two examples are presented to illustrate the method.
