摘要:
Analytic expressions relating deterministic performance criteria tos-plane geometry are developed for fourth-order unity numerator feedback control systems. It is shown that system responses can be placed in one of three categories, and that a relationship exists between the form of system response and the transfer function coefficients.

摘要:
A method of determining linear cyclic binary arrays, useful in generating binary patterns of finite length, is presented here. The decimal number representation of the binary outputs of the pick-up heads are defined as states of the system. A state graph showing these states as vertices and ares corresponding to transitions from one state to another is developed. Determination of an array is equivalent to the realization of a circuit in this state graph connecting all the vertices and traversing no vertex or arc twice.

摘要:
Certain simple synthesis procedures for the assignment of closed-loop eigenvalues are described. These procedures involve the use of the direct method of Lianpunov to calculate the appropriate feedback matrices. Since only linear calculations are involved, the design procedures can be used to synthesize high-order systems and can be readily programmed for digital computation.

In dosigning modal control systems for multi-variable plants, it is frequently found that a numbor of alternative designs moot tho design requirements regarding the eigenvalues of the closed-loop system. In this note, sensitivity theory is used to differentiate between alternative plants from the point of view of the sensitivity of their eigenvalues to loop-gain variations.

摘要:
Simplo and explicit derivations arc given of expressions for the eigenvalue and eigenvector sensitivity coefficients for the fundamental eigenproblem associated with tho behaviour of linear systems governed by equations of the formx = Ax. Such expressions relating changes in the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of tho matrixAto changes inAhave been given by numerous authors since tho early work of Jaeobi (1846). These expressions have been given in various forms and from different points of view, and have also heen derived by a number of different methods. Thus, the sensitivity cigenproblem has been viewed as a problem in numerical analysis (Faddeev and Faddecva 1963, Wilkinson 1965), as a problem in perturbation theory (Bellman 1960, Wilkinson 1965), and as a problem in linear systems theory (Laughton HI64, Mann and Marshall 1965, Mann et al. 1965, Van Ness et al. 1965, Rosenbrock 1965, Morgan 1966 a, b, Nicholson 1967 a, b). It is hoped that this paper may help to clarify n.ny obscurities which may have resulted from tho existence of these different but logically equivalent solutions of the same problem: the paper by Laughton (1964) is commented upon in some detail.

摘要:
This paper develops necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Lyapunov functions of tho Lur'e type (‘ piecewise-quadratic ’) for relay-control systems and gives explicit formulae- for ‘optimum ’functions of this form for estimating regions of asymptotic stability in special cases, comparing these with results of numerical optimization. Certain similarities and advantages of ‘piecewise-linear ’Lyapunov functions are discussed. Among their benefits is algebraic simplification which allows one to compute ranges of time varying and non-linear parameters which preserve asymptotic stability in a given region in the state space; an example of this type is given.

A real exponential describing function as an analysis tool for studying the transient response of a class of non-linear feedback systems was developed by Bickart (1966). In this paper describing functions are developed for similar analysis more suitable to higher-order non-linear feedback systems. The two classes of describing functions developed are identified as real exponential or complex exponential.

摘要:
The problem considered is the synthesis of band-limited inputs for which the state of a given linear dynamical system tracks a reference trajectory as closely as possible. An additional constraint on the energy of the input functions is also considered. The solution is obtained as linear combinations of orthogonal band-limited functions, and is based on a method of Barbashin's.
