摘要:
The purpose of this investigation is to study the effect that the amortisseur winding has on the stability of an alternator when it is driven by an engine. The simulation of the system was done with the use of an analogue computer. The effect of each amorlisseur winding was studied separately and together. This type of information is not available and the control engineer needs these results when analysing certain complex systems.

摘要:
For a stationary Gaussian input, the output autocorrelation functions of the full-wave smooth and hard limiters are derived by applying Blaehman's (1964) technique. A new method is used, in conjunction with Plackett's (1954) reduction formula for the case of four Gaussian variates, to evaluate the probability that these variates are positive, when their covariance matrix is of a specific form. On combining this method with Blaehman's technique, the autocorrelation functions of the half-wave smooth and hard limiters are derived in terms of the dilogarithm function and its real part, both of which have been studied and tabulated.

摘要:
For a stationary Gaussian input. the autocorrelation functions of the output of biased limiters are derived. The integral solution of Ranch and Fukada (1966) is obtained by applying Blachman's (1964) technique and Price's (1958) theorem. The output autocorrelation functions of the biased full-wave smooth and hard limiters are then expressed in terms of the function T (h, a) which has been tabulated by Owen (1956).

摘要:
An optimal linear regulator calls for feedback of all the state variables in the plant. When some of the state variables are not measurable, an observer can be constructed to estimate the missing state variables. The use of an observer in an optimal linear regulator is shown and it is compared with the optimal regulator with incomplete state feedback. The improvement, in performance by using an observer is demonstrated.

摘要:
In this paper a simple graphical method of obtaining the frequency response of nonlinear systems along with a criterion for jump resonance is presented when the frequency of the sinusoidal input is varied. The method is applicable whether the system considered contains a non-linearity with a real or complex describing function. As an example a system with saturation non-linearity is considered.

摘要:
Linear estimation theory has been applied extensively to non-linear systems by assuming that perturbations from a reference solution can be described by linear equutious. As long as the second-order (and higher) terms in the perturbation, equations me negligible, linear estimation techniques have been found to yield satisfactory response. Many examples have been encountered in which the linear theory is not satisfactory, however, and it is to this situation that attention is directed here. Time diserete systems in which the second-order effects are small but non-negligible are considered. Recursion relations for the conditional mean and covarianoo are developed. While these relations yield approximations to the true values of these moments, they are superior to the approximations provided by applying linear theory to a non-linear system. Some results for a simple system are presented in which the response from linear and non-linear filters is compared.

摘要:
This paper consists of two main parts. The first part is devoted to the investigation of the variations in trajectory and in the cost of an optimal control system subject to small deterministic and stochastic disturbances arising either from changes in the parameters of the plant or from the errors in the estimation of state variables. The second part deals with the inverse problem of estimating the changes in the plant parameters provided that the variations in trajectory can be observed. Both fixed and time-dependent parameter cases are considered.
