摘要:
In this paper a frequency domain approach is used for the design of decoupled control systems. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of proportional output feedback laws as well as a constructive procedure for finding these feedback laws are given. A simple relationship between the overall system transfer functions and the output feedback laws is derived.

摘要:
This paper presents an algorithm for the computation of the minimal indices for linear multivariable systems. The same algorithm can be used to determine the rank of a transfer function. As an application, this algorithm is shown to be useful in the design of non-interacting control systems.

摘要:
A dynamic output feedback regulator design which cascades an observer with a dynamic state feedback control law is presented. A comparison is made with the usual regulator design in which an observer is cascaded with a proportional state feedback gain. It is shown that under certain conditions both approaches can lead to the same output feedback system. However, a comparison of the output feedback response with the responses of the two state feedback Bystems (dynamic state feedback and proportional state feedback) shows that the norm of the difference between the output feedback response and the set of dynamic state feedback responses is never greater than the norm of the difference between the output feedback response and the proportional feedback response. In practice this means that the set of possible responses with dynamic state feedback provides a good indication of the actual responses which will be achieved with output feedback (dynamic state feedback law plus observer). With the proposed design scheme the system transient response can therefore be approximately analysed using the state feedback system alone before the observer is designed. The control law and observer design problems ore therefore more completely decoupled than they are in the typical proportional gain plus observer approach.

摘要:
This paper explores the problem of maximizing the size of a region of asymptotic stability (RAS) over a class of Lyapunov functions (LF) in order to estimate the domain of attraction of a continuous or discontinuous (relay) system. Analytic and numerical evidence shows that a subclass of LF may exist with multiple-tangency for the RAS problem, and can cause some serious convergence problems. Several systems are considered with two classes of LF for continuous and one class for relay systems.

摘要:
A heuristic approach is developed for the control of serially connected dynamical systems with and without time delays between the subsystems. The approach enables near optimal control to be achieved and has particularly modest computational requirements. This is illustrated in a number of examples where the overall optimal and the heuristic strategy are compared by digital simulation. Finally, a method is developed for calculating bounds on the suboptimality of the strategy and a numerical example illustrates the approach.

摘要:
A now two-level algorithm is developed for the on-line optimal control of largo interconnected systems with fast dynamics. On the first level, independent optimization problems are solved for given ’ desired ’ output trajectories which are supplied by the second level. On the second level these ’ desired ’ output trajectories are iteratively improved. For ‘ Linear Quadratic ’ problems, the algorithm has a particularly simple form and for such systems a general purpose computer programme has been written for its implementation. A simple simulation study illustrates the approach.

摘要:
In this paper some new results on zeros of multivariable systems described by the triple(F, G, H)are presented. The zeros are defined as the poles of a minimal order right or left inverse of the transfer function matrix of the system(F, G, H). A factorization procedure for the transfer function matrix is first described and this is then used to show that the zeros of the system(F, G, H)are the same as those of a lower-order system described by the 4-tuple(A, B, C, D). This result is then used to determine the zeros of the system(F, G, H). An example is given to illustrate the main results of the paper.

摘要:
A modified quadratic performance criterion for the optimal control of linear systems is proposed. This criterion includes terms which allow the designer to penalize deviations of states, outputs, and controls according to their sign, as well as their squared value. The optimal state regulator, output regulator, and output tracker with finite final time are developed for this performance criterion, and are found to consist of a feedback control and an open-loop control. It is shown that reduction of these laws to the infinite-time regulator case is not possible. The application of these control laws to a two-effect evaporator model is shown as an example.

摘要:
The discrete Euler equation is established as a necessary condition for the solution of discrete variational problems for both infinite and finite time sequences. The variational criterion (infinite sum) is treated as a functional onl1n, the normed linear apace of infinite sequences. The discrete Euler equation is also found for the constrained discrete variational problem, i.e. for problems in which the extremal sequences must satisfy an additional subsidiary condition. Such a condition is assumed to be of a form that is readily applicable to discrete control problems, since it includes difference equations as a special case. The discrete variational problem with finite time (finite sum criterion) is treated as a special case of the infinite time.

摘要:
It is shown that the Hamel necessary conditions for the existence of simple limit cycles in relay control systems can be obtained from the corresponding Tsypkin conditions by a simple transformation using the Poisson sum formula of Fourier analysis. This relationship is an aid in understanding approximate analysis methods which are based on the exact conditions of Tsypkin and Hamel. A comparison of several different approximate analysis techniques, including the method of describing functions, is made using the notation and techniques introduced in Judd and Chirlian (1974). It is found that Tsypkin approximations, including the describing function, tend to be most accurate for high frequency designs, whereas Hamel-type approximations tend to be most accurate for low frequency designs. The complementary nature of these approximate analysis methods is a direct result of the Poisson sum formula relationship between the two exact methods.
