摘要:
This paper presents a design procedure for dominant-type systems with large plant parameter variations. The principal contribution is that a fourth-order approximation is used in the dominant region instead of a third-order, which up to now had been the most advanced method. Thes-domain specifications of the system are assumed to be in the form of an acceptable dominant closed-loop pole region with bounds on the location of the ‘far-off’ closed-loop poles. The design philosophy is to place compensation zeros within the acceptable dominant closed-loop pole region such that the dominant closed-loop poles remain within their prescribedregiondespite the large variation in the plant parameters. The design procedure is for plants with simultaneous independent variation in the gain factor and a pair of poles. The design is such as to minimize the sensitivity of the system to internal noise.

摘要:
A new type of global stability property, called ‘almost everywhere global asymptotic (a.e.g.a.) stability) is introduced Roughly speaking, a dynamical system is said to be a.e.g.a. stable if only a finite number of its trajectories do not tend to the origin of the state space as time tends to infinity. As an application, second-order non-linear direct control systems with the feedback characteristic Φ(σ) lying partly outside the Hurwitz sector are considered. It is shown that a.e.g.a. stability is the strongest type of global stability that can possibly be achieved by such systems.

摘要:
In this paper asymptotic stability of the non-trivial or operating equilibrium state of a distributed parameter energy system is considered. Sufficient conditions are obtained by the method of comparison functions. This enables one to obtain bounds on the maximum value of the state variables. The criteria derived depend on the eigenvalues of the linearized system as well as on a bound for the feedback control law.

摘要:
The classical calculus of variations approach to the design of finite-dimensional optimal control systems is extended to a general class of fully non-linear distributed-parameter systems with distributed and/or boundary control inputs. As in lumped theory the result is a distributed-parameter two-time-point boundary-value problem in the canonical form of Hamilton, which in the linear case reduces to a partial differential equation of the Riccati type. A computational approximation technique for integrating the canonical equations is given which is based on the Riccati equation and does not require any hill-climbing procedure. The results are finally extended to an important class of mixed distributed-parameter and lumped-parameter systems.

摘要:
A method is proposed for search for extrema in stochastic systems. Search algorithms which were developed and are successful in noise-free systems are used in the noise-corrupted systems except that minimum variance estimators are substituted for direct functional measurements. The optimal programme of estimators is obtained by solving a variational calculus problem. An example showing significant improvement in search response over traditional stochastic approximation methods is presented.

摘要:
This paper deals with maximum-likelihood system identification when both the input and the output signals are corrupted by Gaussian observation noise. A derivation of exact maximum-likelihood estimation for this problem is included, but the difficulty of implementing it numerically precludes its practical evaluation at this time. A new approximate method is introduced, called the ‘output reference’ method, in which the input noise is referred to the output, and an iterative gradient search method used. This technique requires noa prioriknowledge of the noise covariance matrix. The method of Koopmans—Levin, which does require knowledge of the noise covariance matrix, is then reviewed in detail, and experimental results are presented for the white noise case which indicate that the output reference method is more accurate.

摘要:
This paper presents and proves a criterion for the bounded-input bounded-output (BIBO) stability of a class of discrete-data systems with a slope-restricted non-linearity. The proof is based on the principle of contraction mapping. A numerical example is given to illustrate the application of the criterion, and to discuss its implication in relation to some existing results.

摘要:
The time optimal control of transmission lines with amplitude constraints on the control is considered as a typical problem involving systems governed by hyperbolic partial differential equations. Using a Laplace transformation formulation to yield a time ‘optimal’ solution, it is shown how this sub-optimal control which is bang-bang develops into an optimal control which is not always at its limiting values—demonstrating the effect which the nature of the differential equation has on the form of the optimal control. A simple physical interpretation of the results is given.

摘要:
This paper investigates the sensitivity of discrete Kalman filters to erroneous models. Both parameter and structure (state dimensionality) sensitivity are considered, as well as deterministic and random parameter errors. Iterative algorithms are derived for the calculation of the actual filter error covariance matrix for the case of known (deterministic) modelling errors. For the case of random statistical and dynamical modelling errors, an optimal mean-square error estimate of the actual system performance is derived.
