摘要:
A method for the analysis of the single-loop feedback systems with multiple memory-loss non-linearities, using a describing function technique, is presented. This method, which can be extended to any number of non-linearities, is very simple, and immediately allows qualitative, or quantitative answers, subject to the usual errors and restrictions of the describing function technique, regarding regions of stability instability, and existence of limit cycles, etc.

The method is of greatest use in non-linear problems where many variables have to be estimated and initial estimates of these variables are poor. An example is given showing the improvement obtained over existing methods.

摘要:
The transition probability density functionp(y/y0)of the outputy(t)of an RC filter driven by the random telegraph signal is derived. The results extend the previous work of Wonham (1959) who treated the special caseyo= 0. An alternate method of solution to Wonham's procedure is given whereby the transition density is obtained from the solution of a set of Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations.

摘要:
This paper is concerned with the development of a high-speed pulse-width modulated convertor for a d.c. motor drive in which linearity and fast transient response are prime requirements. Difficulties in thyristor commutation for currents of the order 50 amps at 2 kHz are discussed and special circuit features and design considerations to overcome these difficulties are presented. Test waveforms and overall experimental performance show the ability of the present convertor to control the torque of a d.c. motor with the required linearity and transient response. Further improvement in transient torquo response is achieved through armaturo current feedback. This is shown theoretically and experimentally.

摘要:
The bounded input-bounded output stability ofnth-order systems is discussed in this work. In essence, one can demonstrate such stability when it is possible to construct a Liapunov functionVwhose total time derivative under the forcing function can be given by [Vdot] ≤rV +sV½whererandsare positive constants. This differential inequality implies a bounded response, and bounded input—bounded output stability is demonstrated via this method for an asymptotically stable constant coefficient system, an asymptotically stable linear periodic system, a forced non-linear system of the Lurie type that satisfies a Popov-type condition,, and a linear time-varying system satisfying a circle criterion. While similar results have been obtained (Kalman and Bertram 1960, Sandberg 1964 a, 1965 a, b. Zames 1965), the approach used in this work following that of Goldwyn et, al. (1966) has been extended to distributed parameter networks and systems (de Figueiredo and Chao 1969) and has been used in the study of global properties of non-Hurwitzian control systems (de Figueiredo and Dutertre 1970).

This note describes an alternative to Tung's algorithm for signed-digit division. This algorithm, while retaining all the features of Tung's algorithm, is more efficient, since the range or interval to which the divisor is to be pre-transformed expands with increasing redundancy rather than contracting as in Tung's algorithm.

A theoretical analysis is carried out and division schemes are described for sequential (or digit-by-digit) generation of carry—borrow free quotient digits with segmented signed-digit operands. These schemes permit storing each one of these quotient digits permanently, in the vacant storage created by liquidating the leading digit of each one of the partial remainders.

摘要:
In this paper, a new method of solving stochastic optimization problems is presented. Specifically, the stochastic problem statement is reformulated as a deterministic one to which well-known methods (i.e. the calculus of variations and the maximum principle) can be applied. The procedure by which this is achieved involves the conditional probability density function of the process; the density function is expanded in an infinite series and conditions necessary for this series to satisfy the Fokker-Planck equation are obtained. These conditions, which are differential constraints on the coefficients of the series, constitute an infinite set of deterministic state equations.
