摘要:
Time-optimal feedback control laws for six third-order plants having real, non-positive eigenvalues and a single saturable control input are calculated explicitly by direct application of Gulko's predictive control strategy. Errors in a previous treatment of three of the plants are discussed.

摘要:
In this paper the problem of traffic control during the rush hour is tackled using optimal control theory. A simple discrete-time model is developed to describe the dynamic behaviour of oversaturated urban road traffic networks. It is seen that standard optimization techniques can not be used to obtain optimal control trajectories for this system due to the dimensionality difficulties which are particularly accentuated by the hard inequality constraints on the states and controls as well as the pure time delays which arise in the system description. However, a recently developed algorithm can be used to compute the global optimum in a computationally efficient way. This is demonstrated by simulation studies for two particularly complex junctions in London as well as for a small network which is a particularly well-known trouble spot in the London area.

摘要:
A design algorithm for adaptive control of systems described by non-linear integral or differential operator equations is considered. Kulikowski's original technique is extended to include bounded input, functions and the limited range of performance criteria considered previously is similarly extended through the use of non-linear functional analysis. The plant operator is assumed to be only partially known. and the optimization problem is formulated as a conditional-minimization problem. Essential plant characteristics arc identified and the solution is obtained in the form of an iteration. Techniques for the iterative solution of non-linear operator equations are included in the overall implementation scheme. The adaptive control of n continuous stirred tank reactor is presented as an example.

摘要:
A matrix bilinear form expression of Green's formula is derived and is used to develop the Riccati equation for systems described by a one-dimensional scalar linear parabolic partial differential equation of arbitrary order with mixed boundary condition having distributed and boundary control. An example is presented.

摘要:
The problem of assigning all the system poles by means of output feedback is considered. This problem was studied by Munro and Vardulakis (1973) who obtained a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of such an output feedback. In this paper it is shown that satisfaction of the condition obtained by Munro and Vardulakis (1973) is equivalent to the existence of an incomplete state feedback law which achieves the desired pole configuration. A coordinate transformation is used to test this condition, and it is shown that when the condition is satisfied the required output feedback matrix is obtained directly.

摘要:
The problem of order determination of multivariable systems from noisy process data records is studied. A method based on pattern recognition principles is proposed. It is a direct method, in that the model parameters are not estimated at any stage. Rather, learning machines are allowed to extract features from suitably defined finite-dimensional functionals of the observed time functions. A non-parametric training procedure is adopted for determining the decision vectors.

摘要:
Two approaches are investigated for obtaining estimates on the error between approximate and exact solutions of dynamic systems. The first method is primarily useful if the system is non-linear and of low dimension. The second requires construction of a system of u-functions but is useful for higher dimensional systems, either linear or non-linear.

摘要:
In this paper a method is presented of improving the performance of a class of Liapunov model reference adaptive control (MRAC) systems when the plant output measurements are noisy. A method is presented in which the system error signal is filterod and the effects of the filter on the system stability are investigated.

摘要:
This work develops dual or complementary variational principles for functional with delayed argument. Local conditions for the existence of a pair of dual extremum principles are given. It extends the results of B. Noble to the case with delayed argument.
