摘要:
This study examined the impact of two treatment strategies on children's drug refusal skills and drug-related information. Thirty-four third-graders were randomly assigned to one of three groups: rehearsal-plus group were taught drug knowledge, assertiveness skills, decision-making skills, elaborative rehearsal (rationale), and specific drug refusal skills in the context of a skills-based strategy. The general information group targeted the same components with the exception of elaborative rehearsal (rationale). Additionally, subjects in this group received training in general knowledge/self-esteem. Results indicated that subjects in both groups showed significant improvement on drug knowledge. Additionally, the rehearsal-plus group showed significant improvement in the occurrence of behavioral skills (Situation 1) and elaborative rehearsal (rationale) while subjects in teh general information group improved.

摘要:
This research explored gender differences in the etiology and consequences of alcohol abuse among older adolescents. No significant differences were found in the etiology of alcohol abuse; however, consequences were different for young men and women in three areas. Men were more likely to have neglected duties and women were more likely to have experienced blackouts and to have lost friends as a result of their drinking.

摘要:
This paper outlines the process of intervention on the student substance user enrolled in public school. It is proposed that, with careful planning, intervention for the student substance user is a firm, expeditious, and appropriate response to the desease of chemical dependency. Steps are outlined that can help family and friends in offering assistance to the student who is chemically dependent. Concerns about discipline and extra-curricular activities that should be addressed immediately to insure a successful intervention also are presented for the Student Substance User is discussed as the initial step in the process of student recovery. Additionally, there is a need to understand that there are different circumstances of factors to be considered when an intervention is being carried out with students.

摘要:
Due to the finding of higher rates of psychopathology in the school-age childern of alcoholic parents, an increased risk of behavioral disturbances were hypothesized in preschool offspring. Forty-four childern, under the age of six, who were the biological offspring of at least one alcoholic parent, were studied as part of a larger family genetics project of alcoholism. Mothers were interviewed using the Behavioral Screening Questionnaire (BSQ) to assess their preschooler' behavioral and somatic symptomatology as well as adaptive functioning. Despite the high-risk status of these children, parental ratings were not indicative of early signs of overall distree. Higher levels of dependency, attention-seeking behavior and irritability were reported only in the preschool offspring of alcholic parents comorbid for antisocial personality disorder. The potential role of biased parental reports vs. developmental invulnerability is discussed.
