摘要:
Eighty-six community sample famillies were selected and classified on the basis of father's alcoholism status. Interview and questionnaire data from parents and their eldest 12- to 17-year-old sons were analyzed to test for differences between the alcoholic and nonalcoholic groups in family conflict, marital satisfaction, and offspring mental health. Based on the Family Environment Scale famile conflict scores, the alcoholic families reported significantly more family conflict scores, the alcoholic families reported significantly more family conflict scores, the alcoholic families reported significantly more family conflict than the nonalcoholic families. Based on the Dyadic Adjustment Scale total scores, alcoholic families reported less marital satisfaction than nonalcoholic families. There were also more DSM-III-R disorders diagnosed among the children, as determined by the administration of the Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children. Further analyses revealed that perceived family conflict did not differentiate alcoholic families with or without a diagnosed son. However, marital satisfaction was lower in alcoholic families with a diagnosed son than in those alcoholic families without a diagnosed son. Family conflict, marital satisfaction, and alcoholism severity in the fathers did not correlate with externalizing symptomatology in the sons and are not collectively predictive of offspring externalizing symptomatology. The findings of this study have implications for research, treatment, and prevention of alcoholism.

摘要:
This article aims to bridge the gap between systems theory, clinical research and clinical practice in order to more successfully address family interactional patterns that prevent families with a substance abusing youth from entering treatment. Important developments in family systems thinking that provide the foundation for working with hard to reach families are reviewed, specific family interactional patterns that appear to be obstacles to engagement are presented, and practical strategies for overcoming these obstacles are recommended.

摘要:
This paper discusses the establishment of a Juvenile Assessment Center in Hillsborough County, Florida. The components of the assessment center, collarborating agencies, and its comprehensive information system are reviewed. 摘要:
Many adolescent substance abuseres exhibit other forms of problem behavior, ranging from mild conduct problems to serious criminal offenses. In this article, the authors review previous work and present new data on antisociality and substance use from their research programs, which have focused on comorbidity in adolescents. These studies have examined rates of conduct disorder and other indices of antisociality in substance abuse treatment and psychiatric samples; correlates of antisocial personality disorder in adolescent substance abuseres; the relationship between antisociality and relapse; and antisocial adolescents' self-reported reasons for use, beliefs about the effects of alcohol, and perceptions of family functioning. The clinical implications of the research are discussed and recommendations for treatment planning and future research are offered.
