摘要:
Twenty-six youth received six months of treatment (mean of 15 sessions) after random assignment to either a supportive counseling program or to a newly designed behavioral treatment. The behavioral program included several procedures to restucture family and peer relations and to control urges. Drug use was measured by urinalysis, supplemented by family report and self-report. The results showed that during the last month, 9% of youth receiving supportive counseling were abstinent vs. 73% of youth receiving the new behavioral treatment. A greater reduction of drug use was also apparent when measured in terms of urinalysis data alone, days per month of drug use, or overall number of months of abstinence. Improved functioning of youths in the behavioral program was evidenced by significantly greater school/work attendance, improved youth- and partent-relationship satisfaction ratings, improved conduct ratings, decreased depression, and decreased frequency of alcohol use as compared to youth in the supportive counseling program.

摘要:
Alcohol consumption and consequences were compared for high and low anger college students. Males consumed alcohol and become intoxicated more frequently than females. High anger students more frequently drank alcohol, got drunk more often, and experienced more frequent and severe physical, emotional, and behavioral alcohol-related consequences than low anger students. High anger males also were more likely to feel very angry, feel like hurting someone, and do physical damage to others and to property. Whereas, high anger females reported more severe relationship consequences. When Heavy alcohol consumption by high anger students was statistically controlled, anger still contributed variance to alcohol consequences. Results were discussed in terms of understanding, preventing, and treatign alcohol problems.

摘要:
Adolescent substance abuse remains a significant problem confronting the nation. This paper addressed the state of practice with regard to adolescent substance abuse prevention intervention. Data on the extent, nature, and consequences of adolescent substance use are presented and problems with the definition of substance abuse in this population are considered. Primary and secondary prevention programs are discussed, including programs targeting high risk youth, school and peer group, families, and communities. Tertiary prevention intervention efforts are outlines and the need for further treatment research highlighted. In addition, the importance of intervention across multiple populations and systems is emphasized.

摘要:
Developmental and gender differenced in relations between drug use and problem behaviour were examined among 2,619 adolescents in grade 7 to 12 who comprised the school population of a small midwestern city. Incidence rates of drug use were consistent with patterns reported elsewhere. Grade-related differences were found for 10 of the 18 substances investigated including the medical use of drugs; there were fewer gender differences. Problem behaviour was associated with the most extensive use of different substances among grade 9 students and the least among older adolescents. Of all the drug studied, alcohol use showed the highest association with problem behaviour. Greater drug experimentation was found among girls than boys in relation to their involvement in problem behaviour.

摘要:
The availability of urine screening has resulted in parents seeking this procedure when they suspect their adolescent abuses drugs. To systematically evaluate this practice, 100 consecutive adolescents were screened by use of a sensitive quantiative method which can detect low levels of drug use. A total of 43% of the adolescents tested positive for one or more drugs of abuse, and 25% entered treatment. Eight (8%) proved dependent upon drugs to the point of requiring medical detoxification or inpatient treatment. In this study, urine screening, which was done for clinical rather than punitive purposes, appeared to facilitate entry into treatment.
