摘要:
Two-dimensional, incompressible, spatially developing mixing layer simulations are per formed with two classes of perturbations applied at the inlet boundary: (1) combinations of discrete modes from linear stability theory, and (2) a broad spectrum of modes derived from experimentally measured velocity spectra. The discrete modes from linear theory are obtained by solving the Orr-Sommerfeld equation, and linear stability analysis is used to investigate the effect of Reynolds number on the stability of mixing layers. Two-point spatial velocity and autocorrelations are used to estimate the size and lifetime of the resulting coherent structures and to explore possible feedback effects. It is shown that by forcing with a broad spectrum of modes derived from an experimental energy spectrum, many experimentally observed phenomena can be reproduced by a two-dimensional simulation.

摘要:
A deterministic vortex method is extended to solve the connective transport phenomena of a two-dimensional impulsively started lid-driven flow in a square open cavity by including the energy equation. Of particular interest in the present study were the effects of Reynolds number and Prandtl number on the time-dependent flow field and temperature distribution in the cavity. Numerical results are presented to show the evolution of vortices and their effect on the heat transfer distributions over the cavity surface. A correlation is provided between Nu¯, Re, and Pr at H1, W = 0.2 for the steady state solutions.

摘要:
This article investigates the transient thermal field that occurs in the squirrel cage during motor start-up. First, the rotor currents occurring during start-up and the corresponding Joule losses are determined. Then the temperature distribution is calculated in the critical points of the rotor, instant by instant, by the finite element method. The study has been carried out on a motor whose shaft is connected to an operating machine having a remarkable gyratory moment, and the finite element analysis under transient state conditions has been made by means of a package entirely produced at the Department of Electrotechnics and Electronics of the Polytechnic of Bari.
