摘要:
Short, advanced‐level science courses organized on an international basis may be eligible for financial support under the Advanced Study Institute Program of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The NATO Program, which is supporting 27 courses this year, is expected to continue next year to provide grants for administrative expenses, publication of proceedings, and underwriting the expenses of foreign visitors. The courses should have a scheduled duration of two weeks or longer, and should include participants from several countries. Those interested in organizing such courses in 1963 should write before December 1 to the Scientific Affairs Division, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Place du Mare´chal de Lattre de Tassigny, Paris 16, France.

摘要:
The Colorado School of Mines at Golden has commenced construction of a new $775 000 science hall as part of a $2.5 million expansion program supported by federal, state, and private sources. The building, a three‐and‐one‐half‐story structure to be used predominantly for the teaching of physics, will replace the 88‐year‐old former Golden public school building which now houses the college's Physics Department. It is expected to be ready for occupancy in the summer of 1963.

摘要:
Le´on Van Hove of the European Organization for Nuclear Research was awarded the Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physics on April 25 during the spring meeting of the American Physical Society in Washington, D.C. Dr. Van Hove, who has been leader of the Theoretical Division at the CERN laboratory since September 1960, received the award in recognition of his contributions to statistical mechanics and to field theory, as examples of outstanding publication in the field of mathematical physics. He was born in Brussels in 1924, received his doctorate from the University of Brussels, and is a former professor of theoretical physics at the University of Utrecht. He spent two years in the United States at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.

摘要:
The US Department of Commerce has awarded its Gold Medal for Exceptional Service to the following National Bureau of Standards personnel:Karl G. Kessler, chief of the Bureau's Spectroscopy Section, for exceptional originality, scientific achievement, and leadership in the development of atomic beam standards of wavelength and for exceptional contributions to the organization and leadership of research programs to meet the rapidly growing needs of the space sciences for spectroscopic data;H. William Koch, chief of the High‐Energy Radiation Section, for outstanding scientific administration, research accomplishments in the fields of scintillation spectrometry, high‐energy bremsstrahlung spectra, and attenuation of high‐energy radiation;Edward W. Cannon, chief of the Applied Mathematics Division, for pioneering in the evaluation and application of electronic digital computers and development of a general computation center;Earle K. Plyler, chief of the Infrared Spectroscopy Section, for pioneering advances in the physics of infrared radiation and for major advances in instrumentation for infrared spectroscopy;Kenneth A. Norton of the NBS Boulder Laboratories, for outstanding contributions and leadership in the field of radio propagation research.
