摘要:
In this paper we review KEE* and ART,† two expert system toolkits. We study their specific competences with respect to existing expert system technologies. Beyond the KEE and ART case study, we show the advantages of evaluating knowledge engineering tools with respect to the classification of the expert system technologies we discuss. Basically, these technologies differ from one another in their underlying problem-solving philosophies. This leads to three different expert system paradigms with specific competences and tools.

摘要:
A methodology for management of constraints in VLSI data bases is presented in this paper. The process of management is based on forma! mechanisms of attribute grammar theory. Examples of a modularized knowledge representation of a circuit at interconnection and logic levels based on attribute grammars illustrate the methodology. The ultimate goal and benefit of the proposed methodology is a well-defined development technique for VLSI design tools that will allow the user to generate a transformation system, a knowledge representation, and a system to manipulate this representation, all from a simple specification. In addition, context-dependent specifications at lower levels are automatically generated from the higher-level specifications.

摘要:
Ambulatory health care in developing countries is often provided by medical or paramedical personnel commonly called village health workers. Medical problems within their realm of competence include diarrhea, infestation with worms, diseases affecting the eyes and the skin, and several kinds of infectious diseases. Also, assessment of malnutrition is among the tasks village health workers have to perform. A knowledge-based system is designed and implemented to provide decision support for those tasks. Expanded decision networks are used to represent the diagnostic processes for diarrhea and infestation with worms. The diagnostic procedures for diseases affecting the skin and the eyes are covered with a rule-based approach using two certainty factors. Treatment schemes and procedural knowledge about drug prescription are represented in a frame structure. The hybrid knowledge engineering tool VIE-KET is used to construct a modular consultation system that provides entry points for diagnosis, therapy, and drug prescription. Different aspects of the design and implementation of the system are discussed, and two sample consultation sessions are presented.

摘要:
This paper sketches a hypothetical conversation between Sigmund Freud and a representative ofthe artificial intelligence (AI) community. Freud is asked to give spontaneously his views on a variety of issues that concern AI. This is an effort to present, in a pleasant way, material that may be useful to AI as it looks to psychology for help in breaking fresh ground. This paper is not written to lead to a conclusion but rather to encourage individual thought. An effort is made to portray Freud accurately.
