摘要:
In an artificial intelligence (At) planning system the planner generates a sequence of actions to solve a problem. Similarly, the controller in a control system produces inputs to a dynamical system to solve a problem, namely the problem of changing a system's behavior into a desirable one. A mathematical theory of Al planning systems that operate in uncertain, dynamic, and time-critical environments is not nearly as well developed as the mathematical theory of systems and control. In this paper relationships and a detailed analogy between Al planning and control system architectures and concepts are developed and discussed. These results are fundamental to the development of a mathematical theory for the modeling, analysis, and design of Al planning systems for real-time environments.

摘要:
The SC (SINIX* Consultant) system is a natural language help facility for the SZNIX operating system. In order to offer individual help to a user, SC uses assumptions about the knowledge of the user. The user modeling module SC-UM provides a priori knowledge in the form of prototypical user models gained from a study of the typical knowledge of SINIX users with different levels of sophistication. In addition, an individual user model is constructed during the course of a session. Each update of the individual user model causes a new assignment of the user to a prototypical user model.

摘要:
This paper demonstrates how a cognitive process that is usually simulated with a symbolic rule system can be modeled with a so-called PDP (Parallel Distributed Processing) network. Netzsprech, a model that learns to transcribe German text into phonemes (similar to NetTalk by Sejnowski & Rosenberg, 1986), serves as an example to show the advantages of the PDP approach. The rule-following beahvior of the model is compared directly with symbolic rule systems. As a result, it can be argued that networks of that kind will be a powerful complement for AI programs in the future.

摘要:
The increasing development and use of expert systems raises questions concerning the liabilities of those involved in their development and use. These liabilities were analyzed according to the laws of the United Slates, with respect to various types of expert systems including medical systems. No court decisions have been made concerning expert system liability-Cases that may be applicable to expert system liability cases were therefore analyzed to provide insight into possible future court decisions concerning expert systems. The major factor in determining these liabilities is the classification of software. Software can be classified as a product or a service. If classified as a product, strict product liability will be imposed. If classified as a service, professional misconduct will be imposed. This determination of the software classification will most likely be made on a case-by-case basis, because in each case the expert system will be functioning in a different environment with a different value placed on the advice given by the expert system.
