摘要:
With the wide availability of expert system building tools, more and more expert systems have been built, and many of them are developed by noncomputer professionals. An important task for researchers in applied artificial intelligence is to find a way for an integrated use of these systems. In this paper, an approach to building an environment for conceptual integration of expert systems is discussed. This approach is originated from the requirements of the concept of open system as proposed by Hewitt. The implementation status of an experimental system is also briefly described.

摘要:
The appropriate selection of data and control abstractions is essential in understanding and implementing algorithms. The RETE match algorithm (Forgy, 1979), which underlies the-efficiency of modern forward chaining expert systems, has a reputation for extreme difficulty. In this article, we present different, more appropriate data and control abstractions for RETE. In particular, we demonstrate why topological traversal is the correct control mechanism for computing conjunctive match with RETE networks. It improves both the clarity and the ease of implementation of the RETE match algorithm and provides a program development framework for RETE and its extensions.

摘要:
The French Scientific and Technical Center for Building (CSTB) is involved in a very large number of programs, covering a wide range of scopes in the area of building, including technical, legal, social, and economic topics. The actions carried out encompass scientific research or technical missions, engineering, writing regulations, or state-of-the-art documents, such as unified codes of practice or assessment of the social impact of new technologies, and the need to facilitate access to this huge amount of data has become a considerable challenge. Information in such a case is a very generic term covering a vague understanding in that it can include basic data representing a primary corpus or, at the other end of the scale, sophisticated services offered by experts able to solve complex problems. Customers for such information have very different needs but agree on the necessity to facilitate access to the relevant data and to various high-value services accounted for by computer systems. As the semantic level of the services differs considerably, the need became apparent to merge different tools within an integrated software environment to satisfy the previous objective. The main components to be assembled are retrieval systems to locate the relevant data, object-oriented databases to offer a reusable storage model, hypertext and hyperobject systems to browse the content of hypermedia entities, and multifunctional expert systems to provide sophisticated computer systems with an adaptable entry and behavior.

摘要:
In this paper, we present a domain-independent tool for the selection problem, which uses concept-hierarchy and constraints as knowledge representation and has effective control strategies, search strategies, and interface. An advisory system for purchasing cars is set up by the selection tool. The applications of the selection tool in configuration and “creative configuration” are discussed. We come up with an approach using circumscription to deal with exceptions and inconsistencies in multiple inheritance.
