摘要:
Consider the distribution of Zidiwhere the d.di?s are 1=1 lldifferences independently, identically and symmetrically distributed with mean zero. The problem is to determine properties of the sdd given the distribution of the d.i?fs and the sample size n. The standardized moments as a function of the moments of the d.i!s are developed. A variance reduction technique for estimating the quantiles of the sdd using Monte Carlo methods is developed based on using the randomization sample consisting of the 2nvalues of Zi+d. rather than the single observation i=l lZ d. corresponding to each sample didn. The randomization sample is shown to produce unbiased and consistent estimators.

摘要:
Gnanadesikan 1977 illustrates the utility of the power transformations considered by Moore and Tukey (1954) Box and Cox (1964), and Andrews, Gnanadesikan, and Warner (1971). These transformations have been used to obtain and assess both the marginal and joint normality of the underlying distributions. This paper investigates the utility of this procedure in defining homoscedastic transformations in multivariate populations.

摘要:
Harley (1954) gave asymptotic expansions for the distributio function and for percentiles of the distribution of the bivariate normal sample correlation coefficient. To the stated order of approximation these expansions were incomplete in that contributions from some higher cumulants were not taken into account. In this article the completed expansions are given together with an asymptotic expansion yielding approximate confidence limits for the population correlation coefficient. Numerical comparisons indicate that asymptotic expansions are superior to other suggested approximate methods

摘要:
The exact null distribution of the likelihood ratio criter- 2 ion for testing the hypothesis H: y = y~; z = a I, a unknown and UQ a given known vector against the alternative A =f H in a p-vari- ate normal population N (y,z) has been derived in the form of Meijer's G-function using mellin integral transform and also in a chisquare series form. Asymptotic behavior of the distribution of -2 log L has also been discussed. Percentage points for p=2(l)10for various level of significance and various degrees of freedom have been computed, but only selected tables have been presented in this paper.

摘要:
The performance of the sample linear discriminant function with known, proportional, covariance matrices and equal but unknown mean vectors is considered. Unconditional misclassification rates are obtained from the Student-t distribution. These results can be used as an aid in verifying simulation programs incorporating the linear discriminant function when Gaussian densities with unequal covariance matrices are used.

摘要:
A common statistical problem encountered in biomedical research is to test the hypothesis that the parameters of k binomial populations are all equal. An exact test of significance of this hypothesis is possible in principle, the appropriate null distribution being a normalized product of k binomial coefficients. However, the problem of computing the tail area of this distribution can be formidable since it requires the enumeration of all sets of k binomial coefficients whose product is less than a given constant. Existing algorithms, all of which rely on explicit enumeration to generate feasible binomial coefficients

摘要:
This Section is devoted to the publication of computer Algorithms for statistical applications. It is intended for listings of usable computer programs, together with descriptions of their use, and for comments on previously published algorithms. Ordinarily the program published will be in FORTRAN (ANSI 1966 or 1977). In the case of longer programs, only the description and comment statements from the program will be published in this Section. Machine readable copies of any program published or described in this Section can be obtained from the coeditors. A statement of the algorithm policy and guidelines for submission can be found in Volume B6(4), iii-vi (1977) of this Journal. Please check issues subsequent to this issue for revisions in the guidelines.
